Weird finding on Alero

Remember a while back I had gotten an Alero rental for 3 days? when I got back in my Max the steering felt soft. Anyway I came across a R&T Road Test Summary. The Alero was faster than the 4th gen through the slalom, held more g's on the skidpad, and was shorter 60-0. Now I realize I wasn't just imaging that the car seemed to handle pretty well for an "American" car. But I think a 5th gen has better above numbers.

R&T was able to drive it 62.3 mph in the slalom (8 cones spaced 100-ft apart) while the 4th gen Max did 59.4. Also, on the skidpad, .83g while the Max did .79. 136 ft 60-0 while the Max did 140 ft.

I wonder if anyone knows how much a 235 tire benefits the 4th gen on the skidpad over the stock 215's, as obviously none of us own a skidpad!

Alero's have pretty good handling for their size. I'm surprised that its marketed as an Oldsmobile..it should be a Pontiac.

Its V6 is a good engine too.

the V-6 Alero's are nice...not so sure what to think of the 4 cyl ones yet...I have buddies with alero's and they do Handle pretty good...but my grand am came with stiffer suspension parts which benifits me in the curves!

I'm at odds with this threads. I'm not sure if its the alero being that good, or our 4th gens lacking that much? how do these cars compare to others in the same class?

I had the Alero as a rental and I didn't mind it. Nice looking, good engine, nice handling, lid up steering wheel control etc. I prefer it over the Chev cars in the same segment.

Wow, that thing is a v6? My cousin has one, and she redlined 3rd for what seemed like an hour while passing someone in NY... Sheesh it took forever to get speed..

Alero

2946 lbs
140hp 2.2
170-180hp 3.4

Intrigue

3434 lbs
215hp 3.5

I find the Alero prettier.
