SC Max VS SC Camary---

There is a guy that has a 5spd SC camary and we ran a while back. My set up was Stock 3.60 pulley and no mods not even tuned, his car was stock pulley as well, full exhaust, ACT clutch, Apexi AFC tuned, and he won, when I added my y-pipe, RT CAT, ACT Clutch, and we were even.
I have seen him run at the track a few times but I have not seen low 14's, then again I was running drags, but I still has 2.3 60's so that may cancel each other out.

I heard he just changed his pulley and I will be changing mine as well and I hope to come back with good news

Hopefully this thread doesn't get locked up.

Ahh and his SC goes almost instant boost, while the vortech has to gradually reach boost, so that is an advantage to that type of SC.

This is my theory: The Max is a slight bit faster than the Camry, year for year. So mod for mod the Max should always be faster. But if he has a little more, he may nudge. It will always be close, dont expect to walk him though.

changing his pulley is not going to make his car that much faster.. i.e. roots blower..

Looks im not going to get into a flame war cause i like both cars. Until the 5th gens came out the Camry and Maxima were very close in performance. One of my friends has a 5 speed 4th gen maxima with only an intake and we are dead even most of the time. Im a better driver so i usually toast his sorry *** off the line though.

Sure about that? 7 psi pulley on a TRD supercharged Camry will get you about 280+ fwhp with supporting mods.

from the other thread hahaha a 2k2 6spd stock normally aspirated Max could probably beat one! (supercharged 5 speed v6 camry)
Dunno. Its a little bit heavier, my cars the heaviest model and it weighed 3,010 at the track, the CE is a little lighter. Would be a close race IMO. Besides, the TRD supercharger only boosts 4 psi in stock form. I'll have a TRD supercharger on my car in a few weeks and would be happy to race any 2k2 in the Florida area.

yup.. pulley for pulley the Centrifugal SC will yeild more power than the Roots blowers..

thats why ppl arn't running high boost with the Ford Lighting

Of course the centrifugal has more potential but you said "changing his pulley is not going to make his car that much faster.. i.e. roots blower.." Changing the pulley will make the car faster, but it does have its limits (they both have their limits). Compare a 7 psi Camrys improvement to a 7 psi Maximas improvement, i bet the Camry gets a higher FWHP number (at least for 4th gen to 4th gen comparo, the 5th gens should be faster on all accounts)this has more to do with our higher compression than anything. Although higher compression sucks cause you cant run higher boost in the long run. The roots type does suck cause it cant be intercooled and once the PSI goes up, so does the heat. There are ways around it and i hope to explore one of them. I do wish we used either a bigger Roots unit or a centrifugal but oh well.

Since the late eighties Camrys have had 5 spd V6s. The new ones dont and the 3rd gens didnt for a few years. I bought mine from Toyota with it, rare but definetly made.

What type of car/tranny does Adam have and what mods does he have on his car?
