A bit confused about H&R springs >>

According to H&R's website the STAGE 1 OE Sport Springs and STAGE 2 Sport Springs are the same

Maxima Type A32 (1995-99) - P/N 53059

Can anyone confirm or correct me?

Thanks
Al

the stage one doesn't show up with the application search, can't you point where you saw the Stage 1 OE springs?

Click and look at the menu on the left

The links are to the OE Sport Springs, Sport Springs, Race Springs, Cup kits, Coilovers, and Spacers. If you proceed with application searches through those links, you'll arrive at the same part number for Stage 1 and 2 for the A32 Maxima...53059

I'm starting to think that they made a mistake on their site. What color are the springs everyone is getting?

Interesting. All I know is that I thought I had H&R Sport springs. Didn't know there was a difference between OE Sport and just Sport. My H&R springs are black color with white H&R lettering on the coils. By lettering I mean only "H&R" and the part number on the spring, printed once per spring.

Apparently, the OE sport springs are supposed to have a slight increased rate and a drop of no more than 1.5". They are supposed to be white in color with black lettering. The Sport springs are black with white lettering and are supposed to have a higher rate and drop the car between 1.5 and 2 inches total. I think a call to H&R is in order.

For A32 models (1995-1999) only >>

I gave H&R a call today.

They told me that the springs for the current A32 lower the car an average of 1.5", are the Sport Springs Stage 2 (not OE Sport Springs Stage 1), and should be dark blue in color. The part number on their website is correct.

The OE Sport Springs have very little drop and are firmer than stock. The Sport Springs have a 1.4" drop in front and 1.3" drop in the rear and are more firm than the OE sports. I think you get the same part number for both springs because H&R only makes the firmer second set for the Maxima.

The dark blue one's are the one's that I have on my car. I didn't now there where different stages for the Maxima, but I'm glad I ended up with the Sport springs.

I called H&R today and talked to one of their techs. Said the OE Sport springs(Stage 1) are only a little stiffer than stock, drop is approx one inch. Less stiff than the Stage 2 Sport Springs. Bad part is they are not currently or planning to make them for any Nissan.

Mine are dark metallic blue and they did a total drop of about 1.5" when the car settled. They are VERY nice; comfy but the handing on the car improved by infinite amounts.

Erica: With your H&Rs, do you feel more chassis flex >>>

Flex that translates into interior panel/trim squeaking and creaking? With my stock GXE suspension, I've already got creaking from the gauge pod, center console and A-pillars.

I do not have these problems. Try taking out the air vent direcors and reseating them. Once and a while those creak on my car. My mom's 96 SE has a lot more creaks with the stock suspension.

I just thought of perhaps sticking foam tape (the thin stuff used by RC car people)...

My A pilliars creaked. I read somewhere here about using foam insulation and jamming it where the Apiller meets the dash. I did this and it worked, no more creaking from my A Piller.

The foam insulation is real cheap ($2) and you get like 15 feet of it, but I only use about 3 inches per side. Just make sure it's not too thick.

I'm going to try this when I do a stereo install and I have the whole thing apart.
