I raced a g35 in an auto 02 Maxima
My friend has an auto 2002 maxima SE and this one guy at campus just bought a g35. We were right behind him and he took a right turn onto the main street leaving campus and so did my friend. At first we're weren't even thinking about racing. Just "OMG there goes a G35 speed up I wanna see it". The light up ahead turns red and he stops next to us. I give him a thumbs up and he just smiles.
He then points ahead and I point ahead too and I am getting all excited. This was going to be a great race.!
Light turns green and nobody does anything. We are both standing there for 3 seconds looking at one another and then finally we slowly accelerate and before we knew it the g35 passes us really fast and my friend floors it around 20-30 right when the g35 is about 1 car ahead of us. At around 60-80 (not really paying attention to the speed since im not driving) there is no gain at all except for the fact that the g35 had about 1.5-2 car lengths ahead of us do to the 1-1.5second head start. We both stop at 80 and the guy takes the exit and goes his friendly way. I did notice the g35 walking away just a tad bit around 80, but we shut it down right then. I wonder what the results would be up to 120.. WOAH.
I just want to add something to this story. All you 2002 Maxima owners...you all got some pimpin rides. I love the 2002 Maxima. Fit/finish design everything about it is perfect.
By the way I raced my friend's 2002 car and I lost by about 4 car lengths and he was gaining on me the whole time.

Not to mention TQ-wise, at least from the dyno's on the 2k2's... they seem to come up equal.

BTW a supercharged 5spd '95 maxima would destroy a 2k2, whatever the tranny...that is if it get's off the line w/o losing 50% of it's tread ...damn fwd...

Infiniti G35 has 260 hp and 260 tq and 3336 lbs
02 Maxima SE 255 hp 246 tq and 3261 lbs
The weight difference is only 75 lbs and the G35 is RWD and 5-spd auto , I'll bet its got alot better gearing than the 02 Max too. 0-100 I think a G35 would beat an 02 Max by at least 1.5 - 2 cars. I'd love to see those 2 cars race.

Hey Bill >>
I know I've asked you about this before...
But in what areas does the 2002 models lack in fit and finish? It's just that I've been around DanNY and Andy93SE's cars dozens of times and I've also poked around in many a 5th Gen. The fit and finish to me seems just as good. THe only major difference I can see are the different material textures. Back in the early '90s, the testures were more muted, and dull...while thesadays they are smoother and less grainy. I prefer the dull texture myself, but objectively speaking, the fit and finish quality is there. I know that with 4th Gens, the cost reduction issues resulted in rattling/creaking/squeaking interiors, but having been in 5th Gens, that doesn't seem to be a problem.
I test drove a G35 last weekend...and it was solid...it really felt up to par in terms of fit and finish with those higher end cars. But once again, I wasn't too crazy about the textures. I like the dull, grainy looking interiors of Audis and VWs.

Interior wise the 3rd gens had the best looking interiors and had the less squeaks of any generation MAX.
