Not bad at all! The KBB value for that car is around $8,000.00 - I think you got a decent reimbursement. I guess in a way your probably evened-out 'cause of all the extra mods you had on your car (I am assuming the insurance didn't pay for any of 'em?).

Actually, I took all the mods off... I got the car back the next day but it was gutted.. I will be selling all the mods as soon as I find another car..

Is that their 1st offer?? Remember it's all negotiation. The insurance companies want you to go for the first offer. They are usually willing to offer more if you do some research and show it to them. Even if it's only a few $100s, it's worth it for about 1 hour's work. Get ads for the cleanest/highest asking price maximas and submit them. They will usually go up once and maybe twice. Also show proof of any recent tune ups or mods that increased the value of the car.

Re: Jeff you have upset me

Sorry to hear that. You definately DON'T see insurance companies volunteering that kind of information.

I found out when they lowballed me on my Merkur. I said WTF? After saying there was no way I could even come close to buying another Merkur for what they offered, I submitted a bunch of ads plus receipts for the tune ups and shocks(like 2 days before) that I did. They upped their offer about $500 or so. I probably could have gone another round but didn't. It's not like they can go back and reduce their offer.

Another tactic is to say, "fine, go take that $$ and buy me another maxima(or whatever) that's in exactly the same condition or better." The insurance company will probably say, "we are not in the car buying business". Then you say, "then how did you come to that low amount?" Insurance."we did our research and that's what Nada came up with". You. "In case you haven't noticed, used car salesment don't use Nada to sell cars, they use KBB". "So why don't you give me at least high KBB value etc.." etc..etc. etc..

In this case though, it looks like this guy is being offered higher than KBB, but like I said before, he "should" be able to negotiate at least a few hundred more. It's not like he has something to lose.

What your saying is true and all but the offer he got was very good, it would be crule to ask for even more.

Cruel? Ewok, are you kidding me. Have you ever added up how much you have paid out in insurance vs how much you have claimed over the years?

I agree compeletly!!
It's your money anyways, why lose out on less when you can get more.
I don't get it when people say, "Wow, that's a good offer!! You should take it."
Sure it's a good offer, but it's not the best.
You should always look for the best because that is what you deserve PERIOD!!!!!!!

Haha your asking the wrong guy that question . In 5 years of driving I have claimed over $20K from insurance. One accident + a law sewt ran my insuarance over 20 grand. Then I had another little scuff that resulted in another grand. Insurance has been about 2 grand per year under my parents name, so all in all I have made about $15K(including lawer fee's) through my insurance

Blame me for your high rates! Haha..

"sewt". Damn, I had to sit there for a few seconds to figure that out. PM me and fill me in on the lawsuit.

Ok, here's the deal... I did the research and my max according to Edmunds is worth $7544 trade or Blue Book, $8874 for private seller, and $10892 retail from dealer in my region.. In think the offer is good. The adjuster seems to be pretty cool and he said he would work with me at the beginning.. The reason I'm getting a truck right now is because no way in hell am I going to buy a 2002 loaded max and park it at an apt complex. So a 5yr old truck for work and beach for right now till I purchase a house in the next 6 months..

Funny you should mention that. My friend's Mustang was totalled by some girl, and his stang was parked.

He played a game with the insurance company of that girl. They went up in $$ the first time. When he did it the second time thinking he could get a little more, the insurance told him it's not a game, and they offered him below the original amount, which he eventually took.
