Re: OK to change only front two rotors?

I need to change my front rotors. The guys at the shop tell me that it is bad to only change the front two ...and must change all 4 to work properly.

Is this true?

Thanks GUys,

K.

Absolutely not true. You can change 2 and be just fine. He's trying to sell you something you don't need. Go somewhere else or better yet do it yourself. Why does he say they need changing anyway? Why not just turn them?

I agree 100%, your Mechanic is trying to cheat you. You shouldn't trust him anymore. It's common knowledge that a FWD vehicle's front brakes (pads and rotors), wear out much quicker than the rear. Hence, they are replaced at different times. And I also agree you might just need to turn them, but get a second opinion first.

Nothing wrong with just changing the front two. He's just trolling for extra money.

You can go to any honest brake shop and they will all tell you that your front brakes do 80% of the stopping. That means taht your back brakes should last appox 4x your front. Mine usually do.

Who cares what that liar has to say.

Change them yourself. The rotors are only 2 more bolts than pads. Probably take you 25 min each side. IMHO the factory rotor is the best bet.
