When I was heading out to the track the other day I was comming from 395 N getting ready to get onto 290 E (In MA). Out of no were came a hot shot in a red 300ZX Twin Turbo(90-96 style) with what looked like dual Stillen mufflers. He cut me off pretty good when I was getting ready to exit, so now I was a little ****ed so I I started riding his rear(No pun)! We get onto 290 E and we both take off going from about 50-100 MPH, I was right behind him the whole time and I had to let off because I was closing in on him. Drafting sure is fun! So we got involved in some traffic and we both messed around for a while, he drove really aggressively and managed to cut through a few cars up ahead. Now I was trailing a little bit but I saw a opening, I hopped in the far right lane and went WOT until about 110 MPH. At this point I noticed the Z cutting blindly into my lane, I guess he did not realise just how fast I was comming up on him! He finaly noticed me when I was about to wack into him( I could have changed lanes if I had to). I jamed on my brakes and we both got side by side at 80 MPH, there was a car in his lane about 50 yards ahead so we both floored it fighting to get into the open lane, from 80-120 MPH I pulled about 1.5 car lenghts on him and I won the lane! We messed around for a little while longer and he could not catch me.

I was a bit suprised my self, I figured I could probably hang with a stock TT 5spd Z but not really pull on one on the highway like I did. I don't know if he was 5spd or not but either way I beat him fair and square! I just checked and auto's are quite a bit slower then me, he was probably auto then

Probably an auto. I ran a friend's 5 speed 300ZXTT with an intake and exhaust when I had my Z28 (13.4s@104mph). We ran from 70mph with me getting the jump and he walked me pretty damn good. In the 300ZXTT really comes alive once you take out the weak launch. He could only do low 14s@102mph.

BTW, racing like that on the highway is really stupid. Why do you want to put so many people at risk? Racing with no one around isn't much of a big deal, but racing to "get a lane" is rediculous.

Ya, I figured it was a auto since he was not all that quick and his car never jurked from downshifting. C&D tested a 94 auto TT, it did a 14.9 @ 92 MPH.

Haha, Emax was in my neck of the woods! Anyway, yeah, there's lots of automatic 300Z's around the Worcester area, very rarely have I seen one that is a 5-speed. 290 is a very fun highway to race on, there's a couple decent turns on it in Worcester.

A stock 300ZXTT has 300hp and a much lower CD than any Maxima so something was wrong?

Sorry this is a little OT but...
Does anybody know which years 300ZX-TT had the HICAS 4-wheel steering? I heard it was only 1991-1993 or something.
Thanks,
Cyrus

I think the 300ZX has .32-.33CD of drag, which is BTW, higher than a Maxima with a spoiler.

Also, if he raced the auto version, I believe they had 286HP vs. 300HP for the manual.

1996 they both had 280HP.

It also about 300LBS heavier than the Maxima.

Let me get out a 300ZX ad to get some specs. Don't quote me on this just yet.

Having owned both a 95 and a 97 maxima as well as a 300 ZXTT, I can make you sure It is not even close!
The worst thing the TT does is go off the line{no posi} and it still does 14+, from a roll it is killer!

That pic is identical loking to the one I raced!

Take a look at a auto 300 ZX TT time, 0-60 and 1/4 mile. To compare my car does 0-60 in 5.7 and with a horrible launch 14.5 @ 98 in the 1/4 mile. Ohh yea, what did you say about the CF

Also how about the gearing and wait factor? I have a nice advantage there i'm sure. My car put down 215 FWHP and 231 FWTQ (probably more now), what does a auto Z do? OI would love to see all of the advantages you seem to think the Z has over me..

auto and stick were both 300hp till 96 when they were both 280

it weighs 300lbs more then the max

if it was an auto he should have beaten it esp on the highway.

HYDRAULIC Hicas was 90-93 and electronic was 94-96 most lke the hydraulic better.

You sorta took my post alittle wrong. I was just stating some specs on the 300ZX.

The 300ZX automatic does have 286HP per Nissan's ad.
