"Check Engine Soon"

I have a 2001 Max SE that has 12,200 miles on it. I am about 100 miles past getting a 3000 oil change. Yesterday, the "check engine soon" light came on steady. I checked the gas cap and made sure it was on properly. No problems there.

Before I take it to the dealership, does anyone have an idea of what could be the problem? Seems like anything that could be wrong would certainly be covered under warranty, but I'd like to know what the heck could be going one BEFORE I get to the shop.

Thanks

Arna P

My check engine light came on for about a week, then it went away. But a week later it came back on. I took it to the dealership (still under warrenty.... 35900 miles) and they had to "update" my ecu programming or something. But it hasn't been on since.
