i seriously doubt anyone has done an sr20det swap to their maxima. 1st off the common sr20det motors are all rwd, and would be difficult to apply to the maxima. the FWD sr20det's are rare, and not worth it as a swap. the sentra guys dont even drop sr20dets in their cars. generally, i dont think anyone has swapped out their maxima engine for anything other than what came with their car.

I know several people with Sentra's that have swapped the DET into their cars here in the Northwest. 2 with B13's and 2 with B14's.

well actually my clutch blew up/disintegrated... putting a hole in my tranny and destroying everything in its way...the starter, flywheel, and slave cylinder

so i figure an engine/tranny swap would be more bang for buck vs repairs and parts

are there any options for other transplants?

Ask Hogan, he can source, install, and tune ANY engine into ANY car.

He's done so many swaps he can do them with his eyes closed...

Uhhhhh, last time I checked someone said the SR20DET bolts right into the 3rd chassis. I never heard if the person did the swap, but they said they had the engine and the all the information to pull it off. As for the reliability of this information, I have no idea. Buy the engine, check it out, and if it doesn't fit, sell it to another Nissan enthusiast.

Yes. And No.

If You must really know, use the search. There are people who have these engines in their garages but are not able to stick them in the max. Here's a hint, transmission.

Ha, no you don't know anything about 3rd gens, so don't try to talk about them. VG30DETT will not fit. VG30DE will not fit. VG33E will not fit. VG30ET will fit. This is the engine from the earlier 300ZX. As for the SR20DET, no I am not thinking of any of the Z car engines. I am thinking of the SR20DET. There was someone on the boards a while back who was planning on doing this swap. He said it was very straightforward, but I never heard anything more about it. As for the VQ30DET, it isn't worth it. Lower compression pistons are about all that comes with the engine. Ask some of the people who have done the swap.

do some research...

Use the search function. Here is some stuff I found with minimal effort. I'm too lazy to read it because there are better ways to spend your time and money than on an SR20DET.

Here's the final reply you are in search of:

No, you can't just bolt in an SR20DET engine into a maxima, any generation. The costs to make the transmision, engine, and exhaust piping custom mounted onto the maxima would outweigh any benefits you are seeking. Get an S13, stick the SR20DET in there and have a blast.

In the mean time, fix your transmission and live with egine currently in your maxima. Otherwise fix it and get rid of it.

Yes and No?

Yes there are vq30det's, I know a guy who has NISSAN vq30det in his garage. Not a vq with a ACME turbo slapped on the side. Someone also said they are not worth it. What are you talking about? yeah a lower compression piston, but ah I think you're going to need that when you slap a big a$s turbo on it. and if 280+FWHP isn't worth your time then your right, its not worth it. but since thats 100 more than most of us have I don't think it should be dismissed as non HP yielding swap.

Ok.

By "Yes. And No" I meant: "yes there is a VQ30DET" and "no it is not an EASY SWAP"

I'm sorry if you thought I meant "no, the VQ30DET is not worth our time"

I was just suggesting that it would be more cost efficient to simply buy the pistons, rings, et cetera from Nissan and forget swapping the whole engine in. I read a thread where TILLEYS99, who has a VQ30DET in his car, not his garage, said the differences between the engines are minimal, besides the pistons, and that the whole swap just wasn't worth the hassle. In other words, it would be easier to buy the pistons and the current turbo kit and get similar performance. I'm not sure if this is the thread, but here is a lengthy thread about the VQ30DET:
http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....0DET+not+worth
I don't think the VQ30DET swap is a non HP yielding swap, that cannot be argued, but I do not think it is the most cost efficient option for a turbo VQ. Just my opinion though.

Okay Vyper listen up!!!

Most of the folks here on Maxima.org aren't very original and are content with being this way. Very few folks have the ***** to go against the grain. Come on people totally shut down the whole turbo idea until someone did it and proved them wrong. If you want advice ask some of the more experienced members. Check their status and some of their old posts, this will show you who knows what. I also think that the SR20DE-T swap wont be easy or cost effective. But if you want to be the first be my guest. I can imagine the SR20 would save a few pounds in weight and has plenty of aftermarket potential. Get in close with a shop that has performed engine swaps, preferrably Nissan's and get ready to excerise your patience because it wont be easy.

If you're looking for a good motor and tranny swap see if you can find a Nissan Sunny GTR these cars were created so that Nissan could enter rallying. They used the SR20DE-T in a tranverse mounting. Obtaining one of these will be tough and expensive. But once you have the engine/tranny combo a harness and some trick work to mount it in the A32 (4th gen) chassis then before you know it everyone will be on your **** begging for dyno's. Talk is cheap, and action makes everyone shut up. So get to working!

this thread is junk but if we rephrase the question then I think it can be saved. Try reasking the question in the form of:

Q: A,B,C are broken on my car. I have $xyz to spend on fixing it, what is my best option for maximum power?

I think you'll get the answer you are looking for.
