I just picked up a front wind deflector for my 2001 AE and was going over the instructions when I noticed the part about the little rubber bumpers you are suppose to stick to your hood. My question is, how permanent are these things? Am I going to be able to peel them off down the road? Do they leave any marks? Do I need them?

Any recommendation on how to apply them would be appreciated.

Return it and apply the $ to something that actually improves the appearance of your car.

 

Oh I'd love too but unfortunately the paint job on my Max is definitely fubar'd. I've only put 5000 km on it and you can already see dozens of small paint chips all over the front of the car (hell I got a couple on my roof). And no, I don't drive down gravel roads or tailgate trucks. In fact, 3600 of those kilometers were on clean, paved country roads without any other cars around. I've got a meeting with the dealership and I am setting up a meeting with the paint inspector but I have little hope in either doing anything so I'm stuck with few options. You'll note I declined to a deflector off the lot (I don't like their looks either)but circumstances have unfortunately forced my hand (atleast it's not a full bra).

 

Are you talking about the Carflector? I've had mine for 7 months now (no garage). The bumpstops are still there. Haven't tried taking them off however but given that it's not directly under the sunlight (behind the carflector) then it probably won't be affected by fading

 

I had one of those on my Grand cherokee, and they do leave marks !

 

I just bought one my self.I haven"t put it on yet.I want to see if i can get it painted to match the color of my max.As for the rubber bumpers i plan on sticking them on the inside part of the deflector and not the hood.

 

You can do that. I just preferred putting the stops on the hood itself.

I figured, if a big rock or something hits the deflector enough to bend it i'd rather have the deflector get most of the impact from the stops rather than the stops impacting the hood. (e.g. I'd rather have the stops on the hood poke the deflector rather than the stops on the deflector poke the hood).

 

I'm thinking of getting one. I replaced my windshield just a few months ago and now I already have two new "bullet" holes. Darn it!

 

I thought about that as well but according to the instructions included with mine it said not to do that. They said it would rub holes in your paint if you apply them to the deflector. Guess it makes sense if you think about.

Let them get what they want, and it will enhance the appearance, they won't have rock ships, and bug splats all over.

 

use duct tape. that fixes everything
