Maxima RACES

Well my mazda protege is completely dead now..

I have been driving my moms 99 Maxima SE auto LSD <===CDNS RULE!!
for the past few weeks while i was looking at buying another maxima for myself. But thats another story.

I was at the lights and i see an 02 Max SE beside me and this car had been speeding before so i thought, why not!!

Shifted to 1st gear (autos suck ***) and get up to stall speed (BRAKE/GAS at the same time).. Light turns green and GO!!!

I thought i woudl be smoked by this 255hp maxima but to my amazement i had a better launch and he couldn't catchup (shifted to 2nd just before redline)..

Although he had 2 more people and most likely driving an auto, i was totally amazed that my 99 SE was able to take the 02. With a 65hp difference, no matter how you drive it, the 65 hp gain should WIN!!

ANd yes he was racing because i slowed down after but he continued to go likeinsane speeds!!

So to continue the story i want to my buds house who has a 96 SE auto. He wanted to see who was faster so we raced. He also did the brake/gas thingy and we both went. But i was again manually shifting the auto and boy i took him many car lengths. He believes his car is having problems and i beleive him because his MIL was on..

In any event, i am most likely picking up a 98 SE next week but in a 5speed. I decided to get a used 4th gen over gettin an 02 maxima buecase I figure i could save a bundle this way and have money left over to modify!!

Well... Keep up the good work on the ORG!! See you at the mEETS!

Errr YES!!

Believe me I know how the 02s drive because i drove a 6 speed as a test drive (was considering it)..

And i must say it does feel extremely powerful compared to the 99 but i have no clue what happen to this guys 02 (must be an auto)..

I will tellyou this guy was going like 150km/h in a posted 80km/h zone!!!!

Oh well... it was fun lol..

All that happened was the 2002 guy wasnt expecting you to race and when you took off like a bat out of hell and launched on him like that he had to play catch up. Ive had it happen to me, Id be at a light and look over and not see any signs of a race so Ill take off casually and the guy next to me guns it so then Im stuck olaying catch-up. Stock auto max 95-2001 runs 15.4-16.1 Stock auto 2k2 runs a 14.3-15.0 1/4 mile.

Re: Im pretty sure

Question:

If i launched my car correctly (brake/gas) and manually shift the 99SE (also had my TC off)... and he had his TC on and was an automatic and he floored it, would his 65hp difference be enough to even catchup??

I figure with that much power difference once we are moving he should be able to power his way past me even if i had a good start.

But he couldnt and i started to slow down after 100km/h because its an 80km/h zone (why endanger lives for)..

And for the recorded his tires did chirp on green!!

Sure i had the upper hand of a better launch and manual shifting but 65hp should let anybody just flooring the succker of an 02 to beat any 4th gen with ease!!

0.5 sec diff in quarter mile is REALLY HUGE!!

well i have a 2002 auto and my tires don't just chirp i can bald my tires if i just floor it so not really dawgin you but i don't think he was expecting you to race and i don't think he was really trying or he would have caught you easily even if you have a great launch well just my $.02 but not venting on your story just my opinion

Although the 2002 may be another story, all 5th gens weigh significantly more than 4th gens so the extra HP is more or less negligable.

well put a stock auto 2002 against a stock auto 4th or 2000-01 and see who wins and put a 2002 auto against a stock 4th gen 5 spd and see who wins but that would be very close depends on driver
