What's a guy got to do to get a race around here?

Trying harder than anything to get into a race today on my commute home today.

Going down the highway I see a 2001 Saleen S281 red convertible. I am not sure if it was blown or not but he was zipping in and out of traffic. I paced him for a little bit and he gets off a side road.

Later on, in my commute back home I see a silver Firbird (TA) going through traffic and coming up to the right of me on this 4 lane road at a stop light. He pulls up next to me and I hear a whirring sound so I think he has a SC. I also pace him through traffic and he doesn't do anything. I get him to roll down his window at the next light and ask him if he is SC'ed and he says "no". Guess my SC is really that loud. =)

Now I am really just crusing through some light traffic and I see a really done up Civic CRX. Done up with the clear tail lights, loud muffler and CF hood. I cruise up next to him with my OD button off so my SC is singing at full tune right into his open drivers side window. Not even he goes for the bait! What does a guy have to do to get a race around here!

Having fun and enjoying the commute to work. Just want to stretch my legs a little on the way home from work though.....

Track times

Yeah,
Before I was supercharged I ran a best of 15.72 with my stock AT
after I was supercharged I ran a best of 14.72 (with stock pulley and modded VB/tranny cooler)

In a couple weeks I should be stepping down a couple of sizes for more fun!

Ever thought of doing a 5spd swap in the future? That's what I don't like about a SC auto Maxima. Even though you're SC, you're still only hitting 14s. I think a 5spd SC Maxima with a stock pulley should hit high 13s. Kind of suck. I would love to have boost once again, either SC or turbo. After that, a 5spd conversion will most certainly be in the plan.

transmission

I have thought about it and there is just one thing that bothers me:
Money. For around 1500 I could have a transmission and have it installed hopefully by someone who has done that type of thing before. Then I would have to get a A.T.B.D for it (another $1000-1500 I am guessing) and get a short throw shifter, better clutch and pressure plate (guessing 500-700). I could do the AT up by Level10 and be looking at around the same price range, but I'm not sure which would be faster or hold out longer.

Definately thought of doing 5 speed conversion, but I see the cost being around $3000 before I would feel comfortable putting it in all beefed up.

Wasn't there some type of internal problem with the 4th Gen 5-speed transmission that made it unable to handle a lot of power?

Is there anything else you can do to make the 5 speed stronger that I missed?

I can see the good and the bad to it:

5-speed
Good- Faster times achieved stock than auto
Bad- But how much HP can it handle before something internal destroys itself

Auto
Good- Can handle more power and run more consistent times when upgraded
Bad- Takes up more power and runs slower 1/4 times than 5-speed. That and it would really cost out the noise if you are looking to go with performance levels that a turbo can achieve with a little tweaking in the future.... Mmmmmmm......turbo...

1) Find a ricey Civic... There are countless
2) Rev Engine
3) Say Bye to Civic

I find Mustangs love to race us. Ive been hit up by like all of them. Only one beat me though... Those saleens, they seem slow for 500 HP.

I understand what you're saying. Some of the guys here who have done the swap did it for a pretty reasonable price. My problem is finding all the parts necessary for the swap. I have a friend that is very knowledgeable and can help me with the swap, so no worry about install.

As far as holding up the power in the 5spd. Mardigrasmax ran a 13.0 in his '98 5spd SC Maxima with NOS. His car is holding up pretty good. He does need a new clutch though.

Anyway, I would say to do your research and do what you think it's best for you. I know I'm going to do this swap sooner or later.
