Raced a friends 92 Prelude, suprised..

About a hour ago I raced my friends 92 5spd prelude, he has a intake and 16" Nitto tires. His model is the one with 4 wheel steering. We lined up and I counted to 3, by the time I reached 50 I was a car length ahead, by 90 MPH I was about 3 car lenghts ahead and I shut it down. I got off the line a little bit better then him also. I was suprised he kept up as good as he did, his car is definatly quicker then I expected. What do these guys run about high 14's low 15's? Seems like my max is really powerfull up to 60 but after that the topend just does not compare to my nice lowend. "Cough headers cough"

The 6spd is fast but not blistering unless you launch it right. And your modded too!!

Wasn't the 4ws prelude back in those days using the older 2.0L prelude motors from the previous gen 91 models??

I don't think they had the H22 or H23 in 92, but i could be wrong.

If so you should have pulled miles and miles away..

Not sure, he said it has the 4 wheel steering and I think he's right

He raced the 2.3L 160hp Si version w/ 4WS. They have a lot better low end than VTEC models and they weigh a good bit less than later years.

Somehow I don't see a VTEC Lude with an intake hanging anywere near a 6-speed from ANY speed....I guess that 2.3 motor has some decent torque....

Actually I thought that there was one year where the 4th gen Prelude had 4WS and the H22VTEC engine. I maybe wrong. The 4th gen VTEC 'can' hit ultra high 14s stock.....but its a rarity. Most are low to mid 15s, and with typical rice boy driver, have trouble breaking into the 16s.

for what it's worth:

the other night 2 of my friends raced.

1984 VV Rabbit GTI 5-speed
vs.
older body prelude (1996 i think) 5-speed with intake.

they were dead even until the rabbit switched to 4th then the prelude pulled about a car and they shut down. i was following behind in my stock, automatic 96 maxima and they didnt gain any ground on me.

later that night i raced the rabbit in my stock auto maxima and i pulled about a quarter of a car on him until he switched to 4th and it was all over from there.

i never got to race the prelude but from the A vs B and A vs C comparison the prelude was just about as fast as my car which surprises me. maybe ill race the prelude sometime this week to see what would really happen.

this post was supposed to have something to do with the original post but i think i went off track. i forget what i was trying to say.

I tell you what, these h23's with i/e/h are faster than I thought. My 95 5spd with i/e only put 1 to 1 half car lengths on 20mph roll to 120mph. If it was the vtec model, would would have been running side by side or he would be pulling me, the h22 has 30 more hp!! Im guessing my car is a 14.7ish as i barely pulled a an auto 2k2 max the other day. So i bet the lude is good for a high to low 15sec. It was kinda scarey!

The gear ratios on my 6spd max are perfect for where my power band is. 1st through 4th are very close togehter.
