Finally, got in a race today, but got roadkilled bad....
I was crusing home from work (got let out early today) and was crusing on the highway when I see a red 1967 Shelby Cobra with 427 badging on the side of it. I think to myself "Surely this thing can't be real since the real ones go for a cool million and no owner in their right mind would drive it on the road.
I think at very worst this thing is a kit car with a 351 Cleveland in it. We cruise down the highway at 70MPH (65MPH zone) for a little while side by side and I am sitting there with my OD button off and he is cruising in 4th with that wonderfully big V8 roaring. For miles he doesn't do anything and I decide to just forget it and go on ahead. I think that his passenger finally said to toast me because the driver started creeping up on my passenger side and gets dead even with me. He looks at me and gives the sign. I hold up 3 fingers and start giving the honks.
At 3 I gun it and give my AT all that it can muster while getting about 2 cars lengths ahead of him and I think that he just was playing with me because I don't hear anything. I let off and then hear a horrendous shift down to 3rd and the V8 wickedly comes to life. I nailed it again realizing that I was about to get my butt handed to me and quick. No matter what I did I couldn't keep him from walking me badly.
The guy spanked me like a red headed step child. After all this is said and done for I get up next to him and give him a "I'm not worthy" bow down and he gives me a thumbs up and smiles back.
Not sure what it had in it, but I think that it definately had either a 327 or 427 in it. Badges said 427 but who really knows.
Bosco, you ready for next weekend?

Nice...but just way out of your league I think.
Have you try just stomping on the gas instead of turning OD off? In my experience, it didn't seem to make much difference with OD on or off. I'm not sure about this because after all, I think my tranny is shot anyway.

I have tried that and it seems like I don't have very much pull with or without the OD on. Definately need to get that smaller pulley on.
Does the 3.33 pulley make that big a difference going from the stock pulley? Thinking of whether it would be better to go ahead and put the 3.33 pulley on my V1 or have the SC sent back to Vortech to convert it to a V2 and maybe upgrade the internals while it is being converted. I know that the ratios between the V1 and V2 are different, but how much difference in power output does it really make. Would it be worth doing instead of going ahead and putting the pulley on my V1?
Reminded me of that video where a suped up Honda gets walked by a Maxima:
Driver yelling "NNNOOOOoooooooooo!"

Mardigrasmax has a V1 and he seem to be pretty happy with it. So I say just keep the V1 and go with a smaller pulley. I think you should go with a 3.25 or 3.125 pulley. The 3.33 will be fun for awhile, but then you want more, so might as well go with the smaller one.

I am not sure that my stock AT can handle the amount of power that a 3.25 or 3.125 pulley would produce. Sure I have the VB mod and trasnmission cooler, bt that is it.
This is my daily driver so I guess a bump up in power until I can do the transmission right will have to due until I can really upgrade my tranny to handle a lot more power.

I had the 3.125 on my auto at one time and didn't have any problem. I got the VB and tranny cooler too. I mean look at Kev...still no BOOM, so...

Yea, no wonder!
It's called: "power to weight ratio" and even if he had a 289 that was makin only 300hp you most likely would had it handed to ya. Those car are generally geared pretty low, rev pretty high and weight very little (2200/2400lbs) and accerate as hard as almost any vehicle on the planet that costs under 100k and were designed almost 40yrs ago! I have had the opportunity to drive a sm blk model (a real one!) and let me tell ya, it'll stay with me FOREVER. The only other car that I have driven that even came close is the 10th Aniversary Edition Panoz Roadster that had a 4.6dohc supercharged Ford motor. I would've loved to have seen the Shelby Cobra that honored you!

Re: Yea, no wonder!
I was glad that the guy humored me by running with me. It's good to hear that some people actually know the history behind these cars and call them by their proper nameplate- the Shelby Cobra and not the AC Cobra.
Here is a pic of a similar Cobra that I ran today:

Now I know what car you ran against exactly. Those cars are no joke. They would even make modern day muscle cars cry.

And btw, that S4 story was true, maybe if you ever own a Maxima, ANY Maxima you will know how it feels. hahaha
Sorry guys, I never post anything negative on this site for the 4 years I have been here. But this Maxtor guys is such a *****.

Have you ever heard of SuperFormance? A small company in South Africa that makes Cobra replicas with blow 350 small blocks in them. 400+ hp, and yes they are 99% imported to the US. Now that's a fast car.

Ever since I've seen Gumball Rally as a kid, I was in love the the shelby cobra. I made a promise to myself that if I am ever relativly successful in my older years, I'm going to buy a Shelby Cobra... Hell a kit car would be fine... It would have to be at least with a 351 windsor or 427 though... I've heard of quite a few kit cars with 351Ws that dyno at 400+ WHP. That's crazy stuff.
Someday....
