last dyno Meet in dallas I went to had around 40..
had a meet a couple months ago with about 25 cars, and it was all of 45 deg outside.
that's just dallas area guys showing up too. a few drove in from farther away like Bret and I (Waco and Tulsa.. under 4 hours each way). The larger meets will get people from San Antonio and Houston in, and there will be 40-50 or more.
They're not huge meets, but it's not "6 idiots meeting up and getting drunk" like people seem to make it out to be.
the first Maxus had around 100 cars, but I didn't attend.. I came into the Max scene just a few months prior to that and didn't know WTF Maxus was until after it was over or I would have gone.

You'd be surprised how many people in Kansas and OK there are. not nearly like there are in So Cal or NE but then look at the population density. It takes all of OK and KS to make up the population of So Cal... But anyway, there were 20+ at the last couple mets I went ton in KC, and same in Dallas... OKC hasn't had any "real" meets, but when I was up there for IASCA Finals in 2000, there were about 15 Maxima guys that showed up to help prep the car the day before the competition. pretty good turnout for just picking up the phone and saying "Hey! Dumbsh!t! get over here!"

I think it's really funny how everyone says Maxus will be in Vegas yet no one from Vegas has set anything up for this major event. Where's it going to be in Vegas? What's the date? What shop to dyno at? Is it reserved? What about a 1/4 mile track? SCCA involvement? "Cruising the strip" would be cool, but tell me how you're going to stop traffic so that you can get a convoy of 100+ Maximas going down the strip IMO, I don't think there will be any Maxus 2002. It's almost June and nothing has been reserve or setup.
I'm seriously considering on planning a "mini-Maxus" in Kansas City which will probably occur in September or so (cooler weather). This would be open to most anyone. This would be a relatively low key meet. The meet would start on Thursday late evening (everyone comes into town, meet somewhere for drinks, etc), Friday would be tune/track day, and Saturday would be the dyno and carshow early evening on thru the night, and Sunday go home. The Kansas City Maxima group already has a charter setup and we're sponsored by a local Nissan dealer. Dallas of Warpspeed Performance has already expressed interest in helping us out. Getting the dyno shop reserved isn't a problem. I'd figure we'd have a car show along a main strip in the KC area at a restraunt that is known to give their parking lot for a carshow. You'd be looking at $45 for the dyno, $15 for the track (probably less on a group deal), and maybe $10-15 if we do T-shirts if the group is 30+. Everything else is your food and lodging. I could also reserve rooms at a hotel that would be very central to the track/dyno/carshow. Significant others will be very happy shopping on the famous "Plaza". We've also got a major amusement park/water park and even an indoor NASCART facilty (race very fast go-carts).
Be looking for details if a few others and myself can get this going.

Matt, I think this is the way Maxus will most likely be from here on out. People are too busy and/or don't want to travel extreme distances for an unorganized event. I think the turnouts will be much stronger if the Maxus event broke up into various regions. There's just not a large enough interested member base to bother setting up a massive event. Most people would probably be interested in lower key event that can save them some money and most importantly, events that are within a 2 to 10 hour drive where they can show off their own car. What's the point in going to a meet if you can't bring your ride?

Maxus Vegas
Hi Guys,
As some of you may know, I live in Vegas. Actually I,m in Summerlin which is 20 minutes north west of the strip. If everyone decides on Vegas, I will make arrangements for hotel rooms and I can check with the Las Vegas Motorsport complex to see if we can use their facilities. As far as entertainment, we can generally do things at the spur of the moment.
If I get involved, there can be no screwing around. I must have dates and then money in a very timely manner. I think the guys that know me will tell you I can be trusted . I am a 59 YO retired dentist. I retired in 1991 and I asssssssssure don't need to make of with your hard earned cash!!
If this event will take place, we must act very soon!!
I need to know how much you want to spend on rooms and also there are suburban casinos where you can stay and use their parking lots. The strip is not a good place to stay because there is no room outside to do anything. You can always drive to the strip.

Curphew
Another thing to keep in mind is that the Casinos and Vegas Police actually enforce curphews for people that are under 18. Weekdays it's 10pm. And weekends it's midnight. Unless you have a parent. They only enforce it in the bigger casinos. I haven't heard too much about it else where.

I say we have a group deal before LV Maxus for fake ID's. That way all of us younger members can party with the rest. Now, who's going to arrange...
#65
My budget would be in the $200-$250 range for hotel and food for the trip. So I would say ~$50-75/night for a couple nights. I would assume that we would try and pair people up so that we could make it cheaper. Also doesn't the room have to be rented by someone over 21, I don't think that will be a problem but I thought I would ask. As far as dates I would say early-mid august as good right now.

I would be willing to spend up to 75-100 a night on hotel, and whatever else on activities. I love vegas so money is not really an object. Lets definitely see if we can plan some activities at LVMS. For those of you that are underage, you just stick close to us and if anyone asks, us older guys will be your adult supervision. And late at night when we hit the tables, we'll have someone buy you guys a ton of alchohol and you can throw a party in the rooms.
Thanks to I30krab and cheston for offering to help plan this, it would be nice if jamie would chime in with an official "OK" on this. If you guys need any help I'm more than willing to help with the planning and stuff. We should probably shoot for an august date, since we got started late, and that will give everyone 2 months advance notice.

The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway is always trying to get regular street cars to race. And the rates are really cheap for high school students. I found this event on www.lvms.com . This looks like it will be a lot of fun for you guys to whoop up on Civics. But, look out ... some of the Civics are for real. I raced against a low 13 second Del Sol.
I hope you can be here on that date. I know I will. But, too bad I won't have my Maxima.
AUGUST 9, 2002 - Friday is Midnight Mayhem Late Night Street Drags - "Project Safe Streets" Gates open: 10 p.m. Grudge Drags: 11 p.m. - 2 a.m.

Vegas sounds cool, but i doubt if i could get all the time off work to go. I seriously think im the only person in michigan with a maxima. Canada sounds good. Toronto is a great place. I might even be able to talk to the guys at a race track around there form the bridgestone and firestone racing academy. I would like to know when and where when everybody decides.

If you wanted Montreal around those dates, there is a NDRA Drag Racing Championship August 18 at Sanair (about 1 hr drive outside of Mtl) that the group could see together. Sanair o rin Toronto (also probably 1 hr outside) there is Scrape by the Lake. Just some suggestions.
