I just finished the first Apexi intake sample. It is not as simple as a basic filter swap as there are additional parts needed. My first impressions are that I feel a bit more power all through the power range, but I only drove about 10 miles so far. I'm inviting a few of you to try this new variation of the Berk Tuning intake. We are not switching over to a new filter but this only being done on a trial basis.

The Apexi kit will consist of:

-Apexi Universal Filter
-2 6061 Aluminum adaptors, polished (one for MAF, one for Apexi filter)
-4" section of double walled, braided, hi temp silicone hose
-304 stainless steel mounting plate, polished

Is this intake the same as the Jim Wolf Tech. Intake? Better? Worse?
The price is about the same, and so is the design, so i assume that they are both the same in performance.

 

Coz over at UltimateZ sells the JWT intake for 100 shipped.

The reason the Apexi is gaining momentum is because of a recent test (forgot URL) that put it as one of the best in terms of airflow + filtering capabilities.

 

Matrix has the design of a filter for $35 bucks, and about $15 for the adapter, $100+ is a ripoff.

does the filter itself have better flow? I'm trying to be subjective to Apexim, they have a good name for good products. Although I'm not seeing anything special. The velocity stack is promising, but I think its more than the stillen one. Other than that, I can't think of anything other than the filter.

 

After two days with the new filter on there I can say that it is a bit quieter than the K&N. I'm not officially switching over to Apexi as my new filter of choice but I'm always out looking for better options. The filter is very expensive and is not the best choice for those who want the cheapest thing out there.

The APEXi tested better than the others. If I recall correctly k/n was at the bottom of the list.

 

My opinion , stick with KN !

 

APC is too expensive! For $1.89 you can buy Mr. Coffee filters and use two of them for normal driving and only one when racing. Why spend the $35 on a Matrix filter when for $1.89 you can get 30 Mr. Coffee filters?

 

Having owned a Matrix filter, as you know Coby, they are a piece of CRAP ! If you have a Max, with a Matrix, you might as well put Teddy Bear 15" wheels too !

 

I just order the Apexi replacement filter. Does this come with the attachment that I will need to adapt it to my setup? I have the Hybrid setup with Monsterflow filter..

 

So is the Matrix. The Matrix filter we tested with a adapter costed less than $50 shipped, and it dynoed 2 more hp than a JWT or Stillen pop. Y2KEVSE tested this.

 

Matrix is made out of the exact same stuf K&N is, and its oiled as well. Like I said we already proved this. Apexi is a waste of money unless it was made for our cars.

In all seriousness, do you guys honestly believe that one filter on a pop setup is going to make more power than another filter on the same setup? They're just filters, that's all. It's the overall setup that really makes the power. As long as it's an open cone with a high flow cotton/foam element I don't see how there would be any measureable difference. 1-2 hp difference? That's easily within the error of a Dynojet. I typically get 2-3hp difference between back to back dyno pulls, even with a cool down and nothing was done to the motor between runs.

Is it just the picture or is that filter smaller? Doesn't look like it takes up as much space as the Stillen or JWT filters.

Ok my .org rating should say newbie, but I would think that a filter with more surface area would have less resistance when under a vacuum. So if my car is sucking in 19,500 (3.0 litres x 6500 rpms) litres of air a minute and has to do this through a filter with a surface area of 100 sq inchs(fictious number) that would mean my car would have to suck 195 litres of air/sq in of filter. but if you could double that to 200 sq in of surface area it would have less resistance because it would be sucking 97.5 litres of air/sq in of surface area.

So having a JWT/Apexi filter that has a larger surface area would ease the engine in having to breath over a larger area WONT produce any extra horse power?

How often do you Dyno your car? I've had mine done twice and the number was only .2-.3 hp difference not 2 or 3FWHP off. Maybe I'm just lucky.

I ordered the Apexi filter. It should be here on Tues. I'll let you know how it goes. I don't have the full Cai anymore. Just the PR Cai Hybrid setup..

 

It definitely looks kind of small. We shouldnt be using the same size filter a a Civic. We all remember when Steve gained a good amount of power by going to a HUGE filter from a GS400...

 

That intake looks cheap (terrible). I drive a 4th gen and got the PR CAI. Looks a lot nicer than having that accordian in there.

That's the only size they have. It will support the air flow capacities of a 3-3.5 liter engine.

 

The Apexi and KN filter are of par quality. The accordian is not part of the intake Cobymoby is selling. That's your stock tubing.

For the Apexi filter upgrade kit it's $89+8 to ship. I know it's a lot for a filter upgrade but it's because the Apexi is so darn expensive. I can sell you just the Apexi filter for $73, but how are you going to connect it????
