How does tire balancing work? If I balance my tires & then take my wheels off ...
to work on my brakes and put the wheels back on .. will my wheels no longer be balanced?
I'm curious as to whether I should pay for these to be balanced ... I know the balancing is severly off. I just installed my Volks for the rest of the sunny season but they're radically pulling either to the left or to the right without any consistency.
But I know I'm going to drop my car after I get my KYB's and that I have to dismount my wheels to install my brake kit eventually ... so I don't want to pay for this twice.
Any advice guys?
Tkx!

Pulling to the left or right has nothing to do with the balancing of your tires. A vibrations or shake at highway speeds is the indicator your tires are out of balance. The answer to your question is NO.
But the problem you describe points to suspension problems. Lose tire rod ends perhaps, or other steering components. Have your car checked out by a front end shop to make sure it's all tight and set up correctly. An alighment might help too.

Really? Because it was fine until I had my volks put on Thursday nite ... prior to that I had my 15" steelies on.

The problem you describe is not a tire balance issue.

Hey ... I have Toyo T1-S's on the Volks ... what you said sounds more like what a mechanic just told me .. he said that going to wider tires often will do what my symptoms are b/c there's so much more tire on the wheel to grab onto an uneven road ... I went from a 6" winter tire to an 8.5" wide performance tire.

Switching to different tires can either exaggerate or hide an alignment problem. My guess is that the tires you have mounted on your Volk's are more performance oriented, so they will tend to amplify any problems. Whatever tires you had on the steelies masked the problem. Most places offer a free alignment check that you could use to let you know for sure. Since you're going to mount KYB's you will probably need an alignment after that anyway, so you might want to wait until after your suspension is done.

Re: How does tire balancing work? If I balance my tires & then take my wheels off ...
if ur getting a high speed balancing, then remember to line up the correct holes to the correct studs when you take off and put back on the wheels. high speed balancing takes into account the rotors...

On-car balancing...
There used to be a few shops that had on-car wheel-balancing machines. Imagine combining a 4-wheel dyno with a balancing machine. Supposedly the rig would balance the entire rotating assembly (wheel & tire, rotor, bearing, half-shaft etc.) since everything was spinning when the balance was checked.
I haven't found any shops in my area that do an on-car balance, though. I'm having a hard time just finding someone who will use stick-on weights on the inside of the rim (instead of the hammer-on type that screw up the clearcoat.)
Also, about ohboiya's pulling problem... it could be as simple as tire pressure. Make sure both tires have the same PSI, even a few pounds difference between the tires can create a pulling effect.
Good luck,
TOM

I haven't forgot about you ohboiya! Hey I have a similar problem too. On my steelies everything was all G. Then I put on my R6's and its just not the same. Except mines is vibration and very slight pull, I balanced a three times already. It sounds like your alignment could be off just by your description. I am dropping my car on saturday so I am going to align and see if any of my problems go away. Also going to get balanced again. I talked with a few guys and they said to go to a place with a machine called HUNTER I think Jeff knows some shops. I guess all balancing machines are not created equal. The guys said that dealerships ussually have especially infinity dealers. Just an FYI
