Product Review: Meguiars Clay Bar......

This stuff rocks. It works, big time!
I washed my car really good and got all the wax and crud off it. I've always been happy with the shine, but I could always feel TONS of tiny bumps when I ran my fingers over it, even after a wax.

The clay bar was pretty stiff because it was cold out(52ish). So normaly it would be more pliable. I did as it says and sprayed areas with the detailer spray. Then I rubed the finish with the flat part of the bar. scratch scratch scratch, you could hear it rubbing off those bumps. The bar turned brown! Its unreal all the sap and crap it pulled off. I did the hood, roof and trunk. It says to "kneed" to get the bar clean and get fresh parts up. It was so cold that I had a hard time doing it so I put it in really warm water and Viola....it softened right up.

Smooth as glass. I then waxed the areas. I couldn't be happier.

Downsides. I did put a light surface scratch on the hood. The bar was pretty cold and hard and I think I pushed to hard one of the corners of the bar and put a light scracth in the clear coat. I'm 99% positive this wouldn't have happened if it was 70 out.

Clay bar

I haven't used the Meguiars, but I have used the clay kit from Griots Garage. (They are probably pretty much the same - except I think the Meguiars is less expensive and more available)

This stuff is amazing. The first time I tried it, I though, "No way is this going to do anything". Man was I wrong. Makes the paint feel better than new. I use it before I wax everytime now.

Just my .02

How much is Meguiar's?

Just for reference, I use Mother's clay bar system/kit
which costs about $20. I highly recommend it as well.

I used a clay bar on my car on monday for the first time too. I bought the mothers clay bar $15 it came with the bar and the detailers spray. I will definately be doing this again it took me like 2 hours to do the whole car but it took stuff off that i thought were little paint chips and stuff, ive got a white max so everything shows but this was so work the money and time spent. The smoothness after waxing is nothing compared to how smooth it is after you use a clay bar then wax.

I was just wondering if that bar took of tar stains, acid rain marks and light scratches. My car has all three since it lived up north for 10 years and was never garaged.

I love the clay bar. I drove under and underpass that they were painting on a windy day and didn't think much of it because they were working behind giant sheets, but when I got home, the entire right side of my Max was speckled with flourecent orange paint!!!

But the clay bar came to the rescuse and took it right off. I'll admit, it took a long a$$ time, but it worked.

Re: Product Review: Meguiars Clay Bar......

I've been using a clay bar for years and it's great! You just have to be VERY, VERY careful not to put too much pressure while rubbing and make sure it's very clean or you can scratch the *!@# out of your paint. I've used Meguire's, Zaino's and ClayMagic's clay bars and I think the Clay Magic Bar is the best so far. It was nice and soft so it was very pliable and easy to use. The Meguires was pretty good too but I found the Zaino Clay bar to be too stiff and dry - maybe just a bad bar I had? All the other Zaino products are awesome so I was disappointed with their clay bar. Also, the clay bar works well on glass if you have any overspray or other contaminants on it.
