Appropriate filter for Hybrid Intake OR CAI?

It's time for me to put an intake of some kind onto my car. From what I've heard and understand thus far, a hybrid intake (the upper half of a CAI with a filter attached) seems to be the best compromise between low-end grunt, high-end power, and a great sound. However, some say that a CAI is best for an automatic, which is what I have.

Since I'd like to save money at this point and want to give the hybrid a shot, I'm planning to fabricate the "tube" portion of the hybrid intake and attach a filter to it. However, I'd like to have the flexibility to move to a CAI at a later date, using the same filter as was on the hybrid to save me money, if I'm not satisfied with the performance of the hybrid intake.

I've searched and I can't seem to get straight answer, so help me out here guys. Here's my question:

What type of filter (and accompanying accessories for attachment, if needed) should I buy if I want to be able to use it on both a hybrid and possibly a CAI? How much, and where can I buy it?

K&N Filter is your best bet. The part number I *believe* is 33-2031-2. I got that from just searching "K&N Part", but I know it's for the maxima from the K&N site so .....

There's 2 from the CAI and the HAI. The CAI is a long tube-style K&N. The HAI is an actual cone-style one. Does it matter for either? I don't think it'll make much difference, they're both the similar size. Both filters are interchangeable between the CAI and the HAI.

As long as it fits in the fenderwell area your good, or you can try the RU3530 that is another part number for a KN filter. That is the one I have for my Custom CAI.

the monsterflo filter available at www.cattman.com - alot of people have complained about this filter being made out of foam, but the thing is that K&N filters get kinda screwed up after a few washes, while the monsterflo has a constant flow

Monsterflo is good for underhood applications, but on the end of a CAI, where the possibility of water contact is increased I would steer clear of the Monsterflo...foam and water, bad combo!

With a Hybrid setup, just like a POP, the filter sits right on top of the MAF. I would tend to think that the Venturi or velocity stack would be essential. It probably helps most with low speed drivability. The only place I've seen you could get those is from a used JWT or Stillen Intake
