Yes. There are 4 screws, one in each corner just like a regular adapter plate.

If it has that tiny wire mesh all around the filter, then it's reusable.

Also, that adapter plate is held on by a couple of rivets, from what I can remember. I spent some time prying the brass adapter out. I messed it up so bad that I had to pound it back straight with a hammer against the driveway. If you have a drill bit tiny enough, it's easier to drill a very tiny hole through the rivet and it will come out. It's been so long since I did tha job, that it's hard to remember. I hope this helps.

Would I need this brass piece if I was going from the HAI to a CAI? I did this mod a couple months ago.

No because a CAI would eliminate all of the intake piping to the throttle body, which eliminates the need for the adapter plate.

I did the mod, and the sound is GREAT. Here is a question, I got the filter from AutoZone, the generic one for 19.99 (came in blue, red, silver...etc.) It has those thin wire on the filter, is this mean it reusable? and do I have to oil it before use?

I did this exact thing a couple yrs ago before I went to CAI...

Not sure who actually "invented" this, but I know the 3rd gen guys have been doing this for a very long time.

My old setup.....Disregard all those wires. Was having a problem with my headlights back in the day, but it's all good now!

yeah it bend a little, just do it firmly, the brass is soft enough so it would come right out. The hammer the thing as flat as possible. Oh yeah, just put the piece on without the filter to see if it lay flat, and remember to check all sizes.

You are suppose to oil the filter yourself, if it already didn't come oiled. APC cone filters do not already come oiled. K&N filters do come already charged. I talked to some import performance guy and he said he oils his cone filter with WD-40. I don't know if this is a very good idea. I have never done this before. I went out and bought a K&N charger/cleaner kit. That solved everything. Plus, when your filter gets dirty again about 10K miles down the road, you will have the kit to clean it properly.

Sorry I just got a chance to hop on the computer. Anyways...
You can detatch it because there is a bolt underneath it and it is turning with the screw. Use a pair of needlenose pliers to secure the bolt and then unscrew it. As I recall that wasn't really tough though.

but how did you get the underneath part of the bolt if you can't take the airbox out?

It's not in the airbox, it's underneath... follow the screw down and you will feel it with your hand. You should be able to stick a set of pliers barely in there, if not then try to find the proper size wrench.

No, I just bolted it on and drove. It's been that way for 3,000+ miles and no problems whatsoever. Cleaning will be harder because I did not oil it though. I might just have to buy a new one when the time comes... but the $24 doesn't bother me once a year.

You might be able to rig up a stand or buy the Stillen stand. Most people with HAIs have this problem as well so try a search. I would just keep the bottom on, it gives you more air anyways.

It won't rattle in the box. The box supports it so much and fits so perfectly that it stays perfectly still. Believe me I have looked at idle and listened at WOT and there is no rattle.

This was my first mod, and its awesome. I would have been happy if I paid 3 times what i paid for this.

I paid $15 bucks for my filter and used some leftover K&N filter oil. I used some gasket maker and some silicone to seal the brass gasket to the MAF. Also, I put some washers in between the gasket and the MAF so I could tighten the bolts down without bending the gasket.

Click on my hompage if you want to see higher res pics

This thing sounds awesome; I find myself looking for an excuse to floor it. Not only that, but it doesn't sound bad or ricey and its only prevelant over 3,000 RPM so if you don't want to be heard you don't have to.

If you haven't already done it, do this!! You wont regret it.

Thanks Cyrus

This is what i did over a year ago. I call it the Brian V intake because he had a write up about this a looooong time ago. It sounds great, and seems to add power.

I dont know about you 4th gen guys, but I know on 3rd gens (I can only speak of the VE's though) we have an intake resonator.

Remove the resonator, plug up the hole, and it makes the intake sound 10 times better. By no means does it add power, but it sounds way better. I also did the "PCV Breather Mod" when I did this too. I didnt notice any of you guys doing it. I doubt it does much, but it sure looks cool.

Hmm and about all this oiling the filter stuff, was I supposed to oil mine? I just bought the APC rice boy filter at Autozone back when I did the "pop-charger". I still have the same filter on my CAI now, never did anything to it, just took it out of the package and bolted it on. Was I supposed to oil it?

The oil attracts the dirt and improves the filtering. Also, since the dirt is suspended in oil, when you use the soap to clean it, the dirt goes with it. I'd just use the K&N Filter Cleaner Kit. Mine was 9 bucks at Auto Zone
