Go here:

http://www.warpspeedperformance.com/nissan.htm

Order this:

HI-Flow 2.5" Carsound Catalytic Converter for the VQ

$120 or so after shipping and all will be well. Throw the RT one in the trash can.

Ok, fine.

I would get the replacement, sell it here, and go with straight pipe and cat from Warpspeed.

I'm stating all this because there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of shiny, happy people with RT cats, especially for their "premium" cost.

Just gut the RT cat. Why would you spend money to go out and buy another one?

yup yup, that's what i said when some hit my bumper at the club friday night, oh well it's a dent. i pulled it out and smoothed it all myself, pretty easy to do, but it's not totally fixed. i'll just wait and get a full body kit that comes with a rear bumper and put that on instead of getting the stock one fixed. if i was gonna keep my car while it was at the body shop i should have just gotten a sarona kit them and been done with it.

questions about the straight pipe... aren't we supposed to have a cat on our cars? what about emmisions? and the sound... right now i only have the CAI and GReddy Evo catback. i know once i add the y-pipe, it's going to be louder, but would it be more loud with the straight pipe? i just want to make sure about all of this before getting all this stuff...

because you often lose power if you simply gut the cat.. the huge cavity causes a backup in the airflow, so it creates more backpressure than if the honeycomb was still there.
gutted one of mine and lost about 8hp.

Jeff(redmax)...your car sucks and therefore you should sell the rest of the mods before you break them too and take the car to the junkyard...

I guess that applies only for NA cars? Turbo cars definately benefit from gutting the cat.

some of it depends on the cat itself.
If you gut a stock Maxima cat, you'll cause more backpressure because the air doesn't flow through the cat. it flows into the chamber where the honeycomb used to be, then bounces around and tries to go out the back. lots of turbulence. If you install a straight pipe instead of the cat, or get one that has better flow qualities (when hollow), then you might see some gains there.

I installed a straight pipe this weekend and all I can say is "DAMN!! WHY DID I WAIT SO LONG??!!"

Then I remembered, "Oh yeah...emissions."

Hmmmmm....tempting. What am I supposed to do with the Cat O2 sensor? Neither the picture or the description mentions a place for the O2.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: I found out what was rattling in my exhaust

The 2K2 doesn't need the O2 sensor. The pipe I bought had a nut Welded into a hole in the pipe specifically for an O2 sensor. I ran with the hole unfilled and it sounded like complete RICE. So I found a screw to fill up the hole....

Now its much better...

Highly recommended BTW...

The install was easy for me since I merely replaced my RT Cat. But originally, those stock cat bolts (4 of 'em) were a beeotch...
