Exhaust Wrap On Y pipe

Will adding exhaust wrap on my y pipe help with noise such as bees in a can or rattling sounds?

Wrapping the y-pipe
Good: Because it quiets down the bees in can sound, and helps scavenging of the exhaust (helps get the exhaust gases out from your engine if it has better heat retention- ie It's wrapped)
Bad: Because it retains more heat in your exhaust system and heats up the welds holding the pipe together, causing a premature failure due to excessive heat the y-pipe is exerted to.

well said...but I didn't care at the time as I knew the y-pipe was not staying on making that noise so I chose the NECESSITY to wrap just so I could bear it...afterward I learned about the heat thing on the welds but I did not wrap the welds.

I have the flex section of my WSP ypipe wrapped too. I have the 1st gen. ypipe. I had to wrap it because the bees in the can noise was really annoying. Now WSP has a new lined flex section you can purchase and replace your old flex section. I just ordered one. So either wrap it or get the new flex section.

Its good that it elimates the buzzing sound and it absorbs heat.

The bad thing is when you put wrap on the flex section, you are taking the purpose of a flex section away. With the flex section wrapped up, it puts at least doubt the stress on the exhaust welds on the Y-pipe. This is why a flex section is there in the first place, to absorb the vibrations and has some "give" to it.
