I am in the process of replacing a torn CV boot on the passenger side of my Maxima. I have both the Nissan Service Manual and the Haynes Manual, from what I have gathered I am at the last step and the half shaft should pull right out, but it won't budge. I have removed the three bolts holding "A" the "B" together, but they still wont separate. Any info is appreciated.

 

Does it seem to be stuck in the trans, or stuck to the intermediate bearing carrier?

 

Intermediate bearing carrier. The two pieces held together by the three bolts will not separate.

 

Did you try a mallet? You can try to pry them apart as well. Mine came right out...

 

Yeah I tried that. Looks like it's just being held on by many years of corrosion. I will try some more liquid wrench and a little more force. Thanks again Ben.

 

I took a chisel and 5 pound sledge to it. It started to split little by little as I worked my around as best I could. Once I got the bottom portion open a little bit, I could get a screwdriver in there a little and pry. Vinipux also had to use the brute force method as well. It takes a lot of force and a lot of patience in the rust belt

 

pry dat shiet apart....wd40...pry it some more...cuzz at it...wd40...pry it some more....cry...beg...ask nicely...go to sleep...wake up try again...

 

This is what I did. Put the 3 bolts back in, but not all the way. Allow them to have maybe 1/4" of overhang. Then, take a hammer and pound on the bolt. Not too hard, but in a circular pattern. The force will transfer and seperate the intermediate bearing in no time.

 

That's exactly what I ended up doing! Worked great! Thanks for all the input guys, much appreciated.

 

Glad to hear it worked i had the same problem with mine and it took about 30 minutes of pounding to get that bugger out of there. But once its out its easy the rest of the way. Ive done way to many half shafts on my car i think my problem lies much deeper, not sure yet probly just my driving habbits.
