My friend wants to paint his brake calipers. Do you have to take them off, or can you do it while on the car?

I did not have to. Used a lot of tape and newspaper. Turned out pretty good, only have one tiny spot of overspry on my disk(hardly noticeable). Make sure and use brake cleaner, caliper paint and clear coat. Check out my profile for a pic.

I painted the calipers on my Max and my MR2 without removing them (although removing them is not difficult, just time consuming).

I bought gloss red engine paint for the MR2 and gloss black for the Max. I just spray it into a cup and then use a brush to apply it. It has been over a year on the MR2, and no fading or flaking. Though dirt is very noticeable on the red. I think black is better.

Just make sure you spray alot of brake cleaner on before painting.

Instead of using tape and newspaper I used aluminum foil. It worked extremely well and was much faster and easier to apply. Just break out a wire brush along with some break cleaner and give er hell before hand. I bought my caliper paint at pepboys it's in the rice section. Good luck!

I left them on the car and used the 'spray the paint into a can and brush it on' method. I bought the cheap high temp engine enamel, it seems to be holding up pretty good so far. Be sure to clean them very good first.
