Just eliminated the worse rattle ever

you know, the one thats where the trunk latch is. seems to never stop rattling no mater what but I found a way to dampen it or eliminate it completely. What I found out is that the cable thats on the solenoid that releases the latch, seems to rattle when its shaken and when you bang on the back side of the latch it rattles like crazy. I found out that if I hold the cable still with my fingers, it totaly eliminated the whole rattle so what I did was stuffed a rag there under the cable so that it will rest under it, pushing it up a little bit so that it doesnt have room to rattle. the trunk latch still works properly and will not get in the way of any moving parts besides the cable which is can still move in and out with the rag pushed up against it.

I don't have that rattle on my '98 but perhaps just flipping the switch to disable the electric release would have done the trick.

The worst rattle I experience is on the passenger-side pillar molding. Same with my mom's car (96SE).

if you take off the liner in your trunk and look at the part of the lid where the lock is, you can see the rod inside the door. mine rattles too, even with dynamat all around it. maybe i'll try stuffing a rag in there too.

I found that I also had a very annoying rattle in my trunk area, but it was my license tag banging the rear metal bumper.

ive got the same problem on my 96 gxe, its like almost a rubbing between the molding and the dash. how did you go about removing your rattle?

Mine rattles too, but everything will rattle when my 800 watts starts to pound. But can you someone please get the picture because I would love to eliminate that rattle. I have foam in my bumber, dynomat in the trunk, and the rods that help the trunk open are taped with friction tape.

at this time? insert Spineshank's Strictly Diesel into CD player, turn up volume. I'm going to look at it next week and see if there isn't something that can stop that pillar noise.

I stuck a piece of foam between the pillars and dash but mine were not rattling much in the first place. All I have left to find is little rattles that are somewhere in the guage cluster and another thats caused by the drivers door panel rubbing against the dash. Ill try to get pics of the trunk thing though

that wouldnt have helped since the cable is still there. the only way is either remove the whole mechanism or dampen it like I did
