So I went to the track this Saturday to give the car a work out. I had not tried the slicks, six-puck clutch or J&S box at the track yet. I got there at ~2:30pm put the slicks on and made a few boost only passes, then it started to rain.

The slicks hooked well but with 2.1 60’ times I was very disappointed. Not to mention I was catching a chirp in second with the slicks, so I am sure the six puck is doing its job. I forgot about the pressure for the slicks, I had the slicks at 26psi and the needed to be at ~16psi for a heavy car like the Max. It was also very hot ~95F and close to raining, I only got in three runs before it started to rain, best of 13.6 @102mph 2.110-60’. The slicks were consistent on all three launches, 2.1xx, if only I had the air pressure right I would have been 2.0xx easy and maybe 1.9xx or better with some nitrous out the hole.

What really amazed me was the J&S. While I didn’t actually detonate and get boost retard, the unit detected my shifting and pulled timing. After I lowered the knock sensor sensitivity setting on the J&S it was fine. This had happened before and I used the boost retard function to be sure it wasn’t knocking. I pulled allot of timing out and it still detected the hard shifting. What it’s picking up I really cant say. According to J&S it probably piston slap or rod wiggle. So I guess its safe to say it will for sure detect knock and pull timing if it detects inaudible piston slap! I’m going to get the Maxima specific install instructions put together shortly for you interested parties. I think I can work out a group deal with J&S, I’ll post more info on that later this week.

 

Sometimes it just don't figure. I found that 12 psi worked best for the M/T's not sure about yours though. Funny how sometimes, when I think it should be faster its slower, go figure.
Anyway you are on the right track just need more time to test it out.

 

I really think heading to the track should be done when its in the 40's. I can't imagine heading to the track in 95 degree weather. The last time I did that, I couldn't break 16.1.

 

Isn't that the truth. Honestly, I can't tell a difference between a 14.6@97mph and a 15.0@93mph. It all feels the same.

Try 99 degree weather with the most humidity in the USA.

Your in the connecticut area, that has nice dry cool air. That's why your such a factory freak

 

yeah i got to hubcity at 330 and it was pouring down rain i didnt get to run any but after i went to the mall i was messing with a few guys in civics and one V6 eclipse

 

dave, what are you doing wed.? i'mg going to the track if weather permits. this kid from work wants me to race his brothers el camino with a 350 his bro only beat him by half a car length when he was in his V8 t-bird and i beat the t-bird by a good 3 cars so i think i'll be fine. anyways, im gonna try to give you a call tomorrow so have your cell on!
