I know that you can get a pretty good one for 7,000 or 8,000 but would it be possable to get one for about 6,000. Because it will take me forever to get 8,000. Maybe you guys could give me an idea of what you payed for your car (if you bought it used) and what condition it was in, Thanks.

I got my 98 SE (no options) for 11,000 mint condition but miledge was a little high. Prices seem to be a little higher where I am in Mass., I see by your profile you are also in Mass.

If you keep your eyes open and wait until the right deal comes along and are willing to accept a car with higher miledge it might be possible. You also might want to consider a GXE, there is not much difference.

Oh... and try these

I bought a 98 GLE (in 2000) with 21k miles for around $17k. This is in California.

It'd be pretty tough to find an SE for that price. It'd have a lot of miles on it if it was still in decent condition.

Because it will take me forever to get 8,000.
Is your credit bad to where you can't get loans or somethin?

O i failed to mention that i am 17 with a crappy part time job and do not make that much an hour at all. I will be working alot over the summer at my job and probaly for my dad too but it still wont cut it. Do you guys think its better to buy private or from a dealer? The main reason i wnat a max is because it is reliable, should not kill me on insurance, and still is pretty quick. I was looking at 90's Nissan 300ZX's but even the N/A ones which are slower than a max probably cost too much for me to insure and the Twin Turbo's forget it!!

In NJ they're everywhere...

I've seen a bunch for $5k-6k...
But theyre usually pretty hi mileage...120k+ which isnt much for a Maxima...as long as it was taken care of...

Maybe i should just get a damn 92-94 SE thrid gen 5 speed, they are much cheaper but then agian i like how the 4th gens look much better and they are faster too plus i dont want to end up getting that VTC ticking problem which seems to be common on every third gen.

In a nutshell, yes. I saw ads in central NJ where they had 98's for around 8995. If I were you I'd get a 98+ because it'd be much harder to tamper with the mileage. Also, stick to a Nissan dealership. Yes, it implies higher prices than private parties or 2nd tier used-car places, but the 8995 was at an authorized dealership. You have what, a 30-day warranty? So if anything happened boom, you're covered. Maxima is a great car for teenagers. Only a moron would buy one new for 6500 off list (laughing at myself for my stupidity!)
