My cable shifter linkage snaped today..

Ye ha!!, I thought I shifted into the wrong gear again, but...

What happened was there was some kid behing me in a Jetta tailling me so when I got a chance to go WOT I did. I went through first and second and then I did a quick shift into 3rd. Right then my car bounced off the rev limeter and I lost all motor power, my shifter also locked up. I thought great, I shifted into 1st rather then 3rd.. Not again!! Well I called up a tow truck and a guy I mett near by helped me look things over. The thought came into my mind, maybe I snaped my cable shifter so I pushed down on the clutch and the dude saw the cable shifter braket busted in half moving! So I got the car towed right down the street to my nissan dealer and I spoke to my friend who owns the joint. He said he would have to order the part on Monday and he should have it in on Tuesday. He told me it was a 10 minute fix once he can get the part on hand.

He told me he would cover my car under warranty for any warranty work even though I have a bunch of mods, I guess being buddy's with the owner of a dealership pays off! He's an awesome guy and know's everything about modding nissans

While my car is there he is going to take care of the 2 recalls and the loose hood TSB. So all in all everything turned out okay! All though I sure did get a good scare there for a minute

Fellow 6spd's keep an eye on the aluminum braket that holds the cable right above the shifter, you might be next.

A little OT but a custumer at the dealership has a 6spd SE-R Spev V and with just bolt on's and weight reduction he ran a best of 14.1 in the 1/4 mile. Pretty damn good.

Yikes Emax!!!! That would scare the poop out of me. Last year when I had my modded Prelude at the track I almost had a big scare. Through repeated runs and quick shifting I managed to work the shift lever loose from the rod. All in all it was just a loose bolt that caused it to slip but when it happened and all the shifter would do is wiggle around I was scared to death. I could only imagine having to have it towed and explain to the dealer why I was at a drag strip.

You're absolutely right. It isn't what you know, it's who you know that counts!

The moral of the story is, make friends with someone at your auto dealership in a position of authority. Then you won't have to hassle swapping out your mods every time you need to take your car in for warranty repairs.

I'm lost. How does any of your mods directly affect the cable in the cable shifter? I would think that it should be covered under warranty with no hassles, no?

It's being covered under warranty with no hassles. I just asked the guy about possible future issues like tranny failure etc. and he said he would take care of me, even though I have mods.

yeah, it's weird, when I worked for the nissan dealership during the school year I noticed the hood wabbling, and it's funny that they are reacalling it because it didn't seem like that's how it should be held

Most Nissan dealers will use any excuse to refuse warranty work.

ie aftermarket muffler causes the car to blow up and therefore no problems are covered under warranty

It sure does suck, I'm stuck at home pretty much until I get my car back, I'm bored out of my mind I wish I still had my 95 hanging around as a spare car. Good luck with the bike dude!

good thing it isn't serious..

About the SE-R ...
How did he run 14.1 with BOLT ONS?
How many bolt ons are there made for these cars? Intake + exhaust.. maybe headers? would that knock off more than a second off the 1/4 time?

The owner of the dealership said the guy's car weighs about 2000 lb's, I guess he did a lot of weight reduction work too. I know the dude has a CAI too, I don't know what else.

The tech looked at my car this morning and ordered me a new braket. The service guy there said they would take care of both recalls too. He said with any luck the part will come in tomarrow and I will get the car back. Wish me luck!

Stupid Nissan and their cable shifter. Such a shame.

As for the 14.1 second Spec-V, run him. I'm sorry, but there's no way you can strip out 700lbs off a 2700lb car. You can remove all the bumpers and supports, side impact bars, all the seats, sound insulation and carpeting, door panels, replace the glass with Lexon, lightweight wheels, no airbags, no AC and you're still looking at a 2400lb car. I'd think the guy driving this stripped out Spec-V would be an absolute fool. I wouldn't believe that 14.1 unless he's spraying. Better yet, offer up a friendly run.

I did not talk to the owner of the SE-R, just my friend at the dealership. He does not seem like the type of guy to make things up. BTW my friend at the deralership has a nissan race car in the garage, I think it's the 390GT or something. It looks awesome! 600 HP or so too

Small...? That is downright tiny! If you intend to get on the highway...dont get a 250. If this is a learning bike and just for inner city toodling....its still gonna seem small.

Guess Nissan's not making any progress moving up the list for initial quality JD Powers-wise. 2 recalls and a TSB, and they don't perform TSB unless you know about them.....

Don't be a fool steve! Get a 600 and that should last for a while, you'll get tired of the 500 quicklike.

I don't get any discounts there on parts, sorry. Try Courtesy nissan they give maxima.org memebers 25% off.

On other news, my part arrived today and they are working on the car now! They are also performing both of the recalls So unless something else broke I will get the car back today! Woo hoo!

Go down to knights nissan in Warwick and they will probably take care of you. I picked my car up today at 4:30 and everything works as good as new! Everyone there treated me very very nicely and even asked me if I needed a reimbersment for the tow, wow!
