my homemade plumbing midpipe for intake, is this going to hold? (pic)

I followed this instruction & tried to make that rubber pipe myself
http://www.drwebdesign.com/mymaxima/upperintake.html

here is the result

is my idle air hose going to hold onto the rubber? I'm worried the engine sucking that piece in & then BOOM
thats why I put silicone adhesive sealant all over it.

do you guys think this will hold??/what else can I do to prevent this?

You probably should use epoxy first to make sure it holds tight, then use silicone. I think the extensions should be longer too.

looks fine to me compare to the guy who rode that
but I don't know if it'll hold or not
http://www.drwebdesign.com/mymaxima/...e/P3210015.JPG

what I did was cut a small hole like 2/3 of the size of that thing & pushed that thing in really really hard, it poped in then I was holding onto that hose connecter & swinging it up & down with the coupling & it still holded, then I put silicone on all over & hope it makes it better. Will the hole/rubber expand under heat inside the engine? will the hole enlarge then the thing will fall into the engine?

I would have put a nut around the threads and then used a combination of things to glue it together. Homedepot would have helped me pick out what i need.

I just can see it cracking as time goes on

Try smoothing out the interior of the pipe. The less bumps and nics, the less turbulant air you'll encounter. You want the airflow to be smooth as possible.

I will smooth it out! if smooth air is so important, I should take the accordian section out right?

heres what it looks like, a diagram hard to see from pics

if u go on aol i can send u the video its super tight as far as I can tell, I was holding onto the extension, throw it up in the air, pushing it & made the rubber bend but the extension is still hella tight there! what i'm worry abt is heat changing all of this under the engine

That's why I was thinking you should use epoxy. The silicone won't melt but the moisture may cause the silicone to get old and weak. Epoxy will get hard as hell and you won't have to worry about it at all.

But epoxy won't flex, will that be a problem? I know the rubber hose will flex, but should'nt the fitting flex to?

the idle is fine! not stalling anymore
the breather filter is the black thing iwth a hole there that looks like a mini airbox.

this setup gained A LOT of low end torque

Cool looking forward to a dyno..hehehe...lol

Yeah I saw the little air box, where is it gonna sit in the engine bay? I was trying to figure out if you are goning to have it secured somewhere, or tucked near the filter?

I remember when I made this a long time ago. I havent had to adjust it at all. All the fittings are still holding strong.
Maybe I should take the page down so people wont be so worried?

The epoxy won't be a problem. If the fitting flexes, it will fall of eventually from vibration.

You know if you really wanted to take it one step further you could use a 3" to 2" adapter to connect to the throttle body and then use a small strip of pvc piping in between and drill the piping connection there. That way every connection would be strong and resistant to vibration and heat.
Bad side is with all the work, time and effort I would rather just spend 50 bucks and get a upper pipe from ebay.

On a side note, I know a guy who made his own upper intake pipe from an Integra intake pipe. I am not sure exactly how he did it, but it looks better than any other pipe I have ever seen! Chrome, with two welded connections for hoses. Man it was sweet. If I get another chance to talk to him, I will get the details from him and do it myself.
