Forced Air Ducts?

I've been thinking about these since I get the Bimmer Mags and all. I wonder if someone could design one that would be ran through the fog light hole to the intake..

I've looked at it couple of times and I don't think it would be possible to do 'ram-air' setup throguh the fog light holes because there is no way to get a decent diameter air duct to the engine compartment from there. Between the radiator and support structures/inner fenders I think there is no way to do it without major cutting...

BTW this should be a generation specific discussion... I 'm talking about 5th gen... didn't look at it on 4th gens...

i'm fairly sure that someone has done something very close to that a while ago. do a search for OSCAI, it should pop up. he ran the tubing under the front bumper and led it all the way to his airbox.

relocating the battery will likely be a must if you are going to do this for N/A cars.

Screw the foglight, lets go up the gut, through the hood baby

I think for a ghetto ram air we could set a hood scoop right in the middle of the hood, and custom bend a pipe curving to it from the intake manifold. Sure it would the degree of bend might be high but damn wouldn't it be sweet to have a functional ram air scoop on a minima! I'm surprised no one has done this!

I know a local guy who has a turbo 89 max (white) with a real air scoop. He relocated his batery and mounted a intercooler there instead. He put a hood vent right above the intercooler and now the air rushes right on in. Pretty sweet, his car is the nicest 3rd gen I have ever seen and best of all he did all the work him self. I think he runs mid 13's with his car, that BTW is with a VG motor.

I tried the GHETTO...

...thing. I felt very GHETTO.

Parts from HOME DEPOT

I mounted a black plastic scoop/duct(at the main MAX opening) to an aluminum pipe(s) that routed UP past the Battery directly to the CAI.

Was a fun project. Wasted time/money.

I'll just save my money for 4th Gen PROJECTORS....

The one Im talking about is a red 93 VE I think, thats running a 300zx turbo and I have no idea what his putting out but its totally a sleeper, looks extremely stock besides the hood scoop. I wonder what kind of turbo we can mount on the VQ's

i Found the car I was talking about, here is the intake hood scoop I was talking about. This car has turbo in it, so I guess this benefits him very much

That looks really ghetto. I'd want my hood scoop to be longer and smoother then that and the same color as my hood.

Short stubby scoop + offcolor =

Nice, thats the same set up as the one I was talking about. BTW the guy I know has a Saab intercooler in his car, he said he picked it up at the junk yard for cheap.

I have one.

I had a PR CAI and just added an elbow to put the filter down in front of the foglight on the driver side. I put a Ractive air filter down there to utilize the "heat shield". Except, the heat shield doesn't block heat, it 'directs' the air to the filter. The hole on the "heat shield" sits in my foglight hole. I carry a role of duct tape in my car to cover it (the foglight hole) if it ever rains, snows, floods, etc. You definitely have to clean your filter a lot more with it placed down there but I think it helps.
