Dunlop Sport 9000 or 8000???

Looking to get new wheels and tires, and I'm strongly leaning to the Dunlops, but cant deside between the 9000 and the 8000. The 9000 has long tread life, and a more comfortable ride but the 8000 has better traction and handling. At least with a side by side compairison of the features on Tirerack.com. Anyone here use them? Any suggestions?

Re: Dunlop Sport 9000 or 8000???

I had Sport 8000's on my saab 9000 turbo and wow, what an awesome tire. They gripped well, cornered stable, rode nicely and were quite. The only problem is terrible treadwear. I got 10,000 miles out of a set of 2 before i decided to buy 2 more instead of rotating them. (mind you when i was a kid i drove like an a$$hole) I have not had any experience with the 9000's, but from what i read they are very good also. I would reccomend the Nitto NT555 Extreme's. I have them in 245/40 18 and i like them. They handle predictibly, have good wear, and are inexpensive. I picked them up from www.tires.com. Check em out. Good luck.

I'm running the SP8000 on my car. Excellent tires! Sticks like glue on the road. Good in the rain also.

The only complaints I have are slightly noisy tread and there so sticky that they pick up EVERYTHING on the road and fling it up into your wheel wells.

I currently have about 15K on them with about another 10K of usage left. So there about a 25K mile tire.

Well, I guess the 9000 it is. I'd rather get the 8000 for the traction, but since I put about 25k miles on my car every year, I'll need to strech it out as long as I can....

I'm in total agreement with njmaxseltd! I've 225/50 sp8000's on my Z rims. My stock rsb has some shot bushings so it kinda leans a little more in turns than it should, but those damn tires stick like glue. I can't get them to squeal or break loose unless I really drive like an an *******(something I don't do). The only time I can feel them slide is in the wet, and all tires are greatly reduced in the rain.

Downsides: They have a chunky block tread and at slow speeds(under 5mph) they feel pretty rough....like a monster truck tire.

At speeds over 65 they get a bit loud.

The wear has been very good for me. I've put on under 10K miles on mine, but they look brand new....even the original light grove line is still there (8000 owners will know what I mean).

My understanding is that the 9000 is supposed to be better in every category than the 8000, including treadwear so you're probably in good shape with that choice.

Check out the Dunlop Sport A2's as well. They have enough grip to move the Earth.

I just installed SP9090 in my car...

..when I mount my 17" rims. I came from Goodyear 15" Aquatreds.... and these 9090 is much better. I really mean "MUCH" better.

Comparing these to my girlfriend's Prelude SS7000, I would say that the Dunlop holds up very well. Highway noise has dropped considerably, and they are excellent in the wet.

On dry surface, I found them not as stiff as the SS7000, but I would go for the 9090/9000 anyday for performance tires.

I have the 8000. Will get about 22K miles, which is good for Z rated.

The 9000s are better, but probably not $40 each better.
