Howdy to all you Max fans out there.

I have read post here for a couple years but never have posted before.


Well anyway, My wife was Driving my 1996 Maxima GXE, Moon roof
124,000 miles. She got in a wreck, and almost totaled it. The body shop came up with 6915.00 in repairs... I don't know whether I should take the money and sell it to for salvage or a repair shop. Or get it repaired. The car is in really good shape, everything nice inside. But will it every be the same, and will I get 7K value out of it down the road.

Any comments or suggestions would be welcome.

Remember you probably won't get full value when you resale it because of the extensive damage. You would have to go to great lengths to ensure the new buyer that the fix was not just typical but superior to most repairs. I say this because $7,000 in repairs most likey involves some or extensive unibody repair work.

 

IMO, no it will never be the same. Not to mention the fact that a slavaged title is worth alot less than a regular one.

 

Okay, I think I am going to route of taking the money and getting rid of the car. My only problem is getting what it is worth now? All these problems would be gone if the repair shop would have actually came back with a higher repair....(They said they were going to use used parts, is it within my right to require new parts anything) I don't wont to go that route but I wanna get what I deserve for the car(around 8K).. So I would think the car is still worth 500 -1000 to the right repair shop that could resell it for 4500-5500 after repairing.

I don't think it is worth it putting almost 7000 in a car that is almost worth that much. If you have that amount of money. I think it would be better to look for another maxima. I would salvage or junk the car. I personally wouldn't do it.
Things happen to car. But you are better off looking for another one.
