whenever i hit bumps my car rattles like no other so today i got under there and shook some stuff around and it seems like the heatshields are clanking together and clanking on the underbody. what would happen if i removed the heatshields past the cat (by the b-pipe) would it hurt anything? this rattling is so loud and it annoys the hell out of me.

Took mine off a couple of months ago. Doesn't seem to do anything except make it quieter. I have checked after a hard run and temp above cat and pipe is lukewarm.

They bend easily... use a large screwdriver to 'reshape' them as needed.

be careful where you are taking the heat shields off... seems to be plastic type material last time i looked under there @ certain places...====> heat may not help there but im not sure.

I agree with seximagtr

The heat shields are there to specifically restrict heat transfer to surrounding parts.

I deal with wiring harness routing and I know how beneficial the heat shields are. You'll be surprised how much lower the temps are thanks to the simple heat shield.

I'll also agree with Chunger, just bend them away from the point of contact that's causing the rattle.

i had a banging problem and it was bad enough to wear we just cut a 3 inch section out of the b pipe and welded it back. Cost me 20 bucks; I'd rather spend that then the cost to have wiring/ undercarriage repaired.
