Used to not be able to rev past 4000..cleaned maf.....

Ok..so I havent been able to rev past 4000 rpm while doing WOT..this happend approximatly 1 week after cleaning/re-oiling my K&N. I could floor the car..and at about 4000 it would just hit a wall. I could feather the throttle and it would rev higher but the engine sounded starved. Now I put my stock airbox back on (had frankencar) and i saw that the tubes and maf were a little oily. So i took a cotton swab (against Turbo95max advice) cleaned it off a little...and used a little bit of air intake cleaner got some gunk off. *boom* problem solved. BUT..my CES light came on . Ah well back to the dealer...at least my stock air box is in. So theyre wont be any cause for warantee concern.

Sounds like you overoiled the filter and got oil all over the maf heating element. The coating caused a odd voltage and put the car into some type of limp mode(I thought it was 2500 rpm but..)

Let us know what the dealer says. If they ask if you had another intake, just remember to shrug your shoulders and play dumb.

With a front end like that on your car they might send the Nissan rep for warranty service, lol

my car's frame warantee is probably out of whack..cuz of that front end....hahaha.... ...theyd probably say that if my car started to fall apart.

Yes..right after it happend i took off my K&N and yup..there was some red oil on my intake adaptor. But..I thought limp mode was 2500..but..i could rev untill about 4000...which made me think of the Variable intake system..seeing that i could feather the throttle and get the car past 5000 rpm but not floor it. But i guess it is the MAF..and we'll find out tuesdsay. =)

Geez, the MAF's on Maxima's are so damned fragile!

People over-oil the crap out of their K&N's by accident all the time at AccordV6.com and never have problems other than slightly degraded performance. They just rewash/oil them properly, reset the ECU and they're good to go. I think they have a MAP, though, not a MAF.

AccordV6 mods are definitely more foolproof. You get better results on the Maxima but the mods are definitely touchier

I've done this to several cars. Never had a problem with one failing or not working correctly. Just spray down the element with intake cleaner, wipe gently with a Q-tip and reinstall.

I agree, I've done it too....you just have to be very gentle with it....and you won't break anything.

What have you got to lose ???

I'm with BriGuyMax and njmaxseltd on this one, chinaonnitrous1. Spray the element with intake cleaner, dry it gently with a Q tip or just let it air dry, reset your ECU and see what happens.

I was thinking of that..BUT..im still under warantee so i'll have the dealer diagnose it..and have them take care of it..then....its...time..to wait untill the 2 door G35 comes out. no more mods.

im experienceing the same thing except i have almost NO power and the engine just runs out of steam at around 4k. then makes a pretty wierd choking noise that sounds more metallic than anything else. this sound is right around 4000 rpm and i dont really try to push it any further but im pretty sure the engine just wont rev past 4k. the car has a really hard time accelerating anytime in any gear. i recentlyreplaced the MAF with an 01 and it ran until today (about 2 weeks later). also today was rainy and humid about 70+ degrees. i have no clue what this problem could be, no CEL and sometimes while driving down the road it wont rev past 2400 rpm. just dies. and when i pull over to restart it it "bounces" at 2400 rpm which as i understand is this engines "safety" when it gets an invalid signal from the MAF. can any one help me please, this is driving me nuts. i dont mean to stel the thread i was just hoping to maybe catch someone who has knowledge about this...

Instead of using intake cleaner why not buy the crc cleaner specific to maf?
