homemade intake

who here has made a homemade intake whether it be CAI, hybrid, or popcharger? I want to know if it will really work because I'm on a small budget.

not worth it to do it now because there are so many cheap options out there...just look on ebay, you can get an intake for like $20.

when i first got my 5th gen there wasnt many options so i took the cheap way out and hacked one up myself...

I have no experience w/ it, but hey, if you're on a budget, it looks like a good deal.

There is an intake for sale in the group deals section for only $99, I think it is a pretty good deal. Check my review in the thread below.

Lots of people have followed these intructions. However, I recently learned of some processes to make it easier, but you'll need a pop-rivet gun.

I made one for my 5th gen after spending $175 on the Stillen (piece of crap). What I did was to put the stock setup back in place minus the resonator box, which is located below the battery. This left me with an extra 3" intake hole. I then went to Home Depot and purchased some 3" flexible aluminum tubing, hoseclamps, 3" connector and a drain cover. I came home and drilled a 3" inch hole in the plastic cover under the front bumper, shoved in the drain cover and attached flexible tubing to where the resonator used to be and to the backside of the drain cover. I used the 3" connector to attach the flexible tubing to the hole where the resonator used to reside. It looks totally professional and I regained my low end which I lost with the Stillen. I will post some pics this week when I get my digital camera back. If you want some more info on this call me @ (213)804-1246. My name is Edward and I am in CA.

I made one for my girlfriends 91 civic. It's made from Home Depot parts. Flexible piping wrapped in insulation and insulating tape and a K&N Cone filter. I'm going to refine it but it does wonders for her car, however, not for her gas mileage though. Here's an idea that I've been playin with, if you know someone that works at a muffler shop or a shop that work on pipes, then you can try to go to them. I'm going to go to the shop that removed my resonators and have them bend me some piping to use as an intake for my GF's civic. Essentially, it should be the same deal as getting an already made intake. Hope that helped.

Re: Re: Re: homemade intake

Alright, I have to take my Home Depot CAI off before I take the car to the dealer for a code read on the service engine soon light. Since I have 36,100 miles on it I decided to let the dealer sort out the problem. I will post pictures of all the pieces involved along with the install in a day of so after I get the car back. By the way, I told the dealer that the light came on before 36k and I could not bring it in because I was out of town with the car. Check back in a day or so.

Re: Re: homemade intake

Ed's is back from the dealer and here is what happened. This morning I reinstalled the stock resonator box. In doing so I had to disconnect the battery and remove it to get the resonator back in. This is something that I did not want to do since it would erase the ses light (the reason that it was going to the dealer in the first place). A friend (Ex-Nissan Mechanic) told me that if the ses was due to a hard code, it would be recorded in the computer and that a disconnect of the battery would not erase the code. I arrived at the dealer, SES light OFF, and they ran a code check. It came back clean. Now back at home, I need to get the light to come back on & return to the dealer without resetting the light. Easy fix. Time to reinstall the Stillen and reignite that damn light. Once it lights up I will reinstall the stock setup, w/out disconnecting the battery, and go back to the dealer for a code check. Everybody stay tuned and maybe we can solve this SES light and aftermarket intakes controversy for once and all. By the way, Nissan service told me that this type of thing is covered under some 50 or 60k warranty, not the 3/36 that covers other parts of the car.

K&N filter and adapter for sale

In need of an adapter for your K&N? I will sell you mine along with an extra filter. It is Stillen's venturi type with mounting bracket and all hardware. It is brand new and I am not going to use it because it throws my SES light on. Besides, I think that I lost some low end torque when I threw it on. If you are interested I will sell it to you for $100.00 plus shipping, unless you are in Los Angeles, then I will deliver it to you. It is brand new and I have the receipt. I paid $175.00 plus tax. It was on the car less than 1 week.

Korupter, I bought adaptor from Summit last fall, it was about 20 bucks. Sorry I can't remember the part number, all i know the part number started with GRM and is made by Matrix. If you do find it and get it, there will be some drilling involved for the adapter to fit right. The adapter tube is 3in just in case this is the one you are looking for.

well hmm, does anyone know if you can get the adaptor at any auto parts store (ie Pep Boys, Autozone) since the nearest performance shop around here is sort of far.
