4th/ 5th Gen Wheels
I was planning to get a set of the 16" (16X6.5?) and I wanted to make sure this is possible before purchasing them.
The 16" alloy rims from the 2000+ maximas do fit the 4th generation Maximas, correct? And I was wondering if they too can have the 225/50 16" tires mounted on them?
I was on the miata tire size calculator and noticed that the 22/50 16" that some 4th generation folks have upgraded to is really not as close to the 225/55 16" size in terms of speedometer accuracy. The 225/55 16" would cause a .9% difference between the stock 205/65, whereas the 225/50 woudl cause almost a 3% difference. Am I on the right track here, or the 225/55 is not a good fit size for the 16"?
Last thing I want to ask is about the balancing/wheel weights of the new 5th generation rims. They seem to be lipless--and that wheels weights can not be clipped on for balancing. Anyone can shed any info on the "stick weights" that is used? is it better, more expensive?
thanks

Re: anyone know?
It's been done. Gr8bone's former 98 SE has the 2k 5-star 16" rims on it. They look nice.
They are the same size as the '97-'99 5-stars so they can have the 225/50 tires on them but you will have slightly more wheelgap whereas the 225/55 will give you less wheelgap.
I don't know much about the weights...why not just buy a set with tires and save yourself the trouble (and money)?
Good Luck!! Be sure to post pics!!

nick--
thanks so much for the response. hhhehe
Guess my wish today came true that some does know...
So it looks pretty decent on a 97 Maxima? My car already has the 15" alloys, but I think they look a little small--and what I am annoyed about are the corners and handling. It adds insult to injury the fact that I have a GLE--so the suspension isn't as stiff.
But in any case, I think I will give it a whirl and see what happens.
As for a set with tires. I have not been able to find a set with tires yet--and most do are the rims only. I am not sure how well the Proxes are that are stock...and I figure if I am spending 750 or so for a set with tires, I might as well use the 250 additional for tires I want--ie. Dunlops --hehe
I shall see.

your car
Maxi-- how is the status of your car?
did you find any dealer that happened to fix your tranny under warranty? or is it on its way to atlanta and get a fix there?
I hope everything gets fixed alright--and you ought to complain to Nissan big time--and i'll add my name and others to the list of "Those who have a bone to pick with Nissan..."
ANd hope you are feeling better from that comment Doug made--don't let ppl like that bother you. Like that saying--"time and place for everything..." and that wasn't called for b/c if it was me, I'd flipped...
laters man...
