Bose system died...
This morning when I turned on my radio, no sound came out. I tried playing with the volume control, nothing. Turned it off then on again, nothing. Put in a CD, and very little sound came out, but only when on full blast. I have the Bose with cassette and CD (no changer) in a '96 GLE.
Any idea what the problem might be?
I can't drive without music!!!
Thanks!

This is a common problem. Mine went out on my 96 and my brothers went out on his 95. See if you can find a car audio specialist to fix it. The major chains won't touch Bose and Nissan charges $180 just to send it away, not including the cost to actually fix it.

does anyone know if there are signs to watch out for when they're going? my friend just bought a 95 that came with blose and he is having problems with it already. he says that the light doesn't come on at night, and it reads there is a cd in when there isn't and something else weird with it which i forget. any ideas?

My Bose system is great! It almost always works and it sounds pretty good.......The right channel at least. Apparently the marvelously melodic and magical elfin loudspeaker singers from the driver's side(left) channel only signed a 6 year contract with Nissan. So now instead of filling the cabin of the max with euphonious intonement, the little Pavarotti's are living out the rest of their days in Rivendale, singing and drinking ale under the stars. At least I think that's why my left channel speakers never work any more.
Don't bother fooling with it. Any attempt that you make to remedy the problem yourself will be a labor of futility and only effectuate a feeling of discontentment. The people at Bose are obviously just carney-reject Bozos who can't build a durable system!!! There are many other people on the board that have reported annoying Bose malfunctions. So the bottomline is this:
I]Bose knows what grows and they chose to pose with the poppy seedo's beside the rose that was under the toes of G.Bush's hairy hoes-DON'T DOZE!!!!!- all the while Cheney writes prose about his cardiovascular woes and dreams of eleminating the flows that emanate from his nose. [/I]
To possibly get the Bose fixed at one of the places like Nick was refering to, you have to take apart the whole dash to get the unit out and then ship it to them. Then you have to wait while they fix it and then have it shipped again. It gets expensive quick.
You should just replace all the factory stereo components with aftermarket equitment.

VQ BABY!!!
My Bose has been a little flakey at times. Sometimes when the CD has been going for a long time it'll just cut out and die. I have to power cycle the radio to get it back up. Sometimes it craps out when I hit the CD eject while still in CD mode, too. I have to remember to switch to the radio mode BEFORE ejecting for some reason. Strange.
But if it dies, yeah, I'll just replace it and put something better in
As for what your actual problem is, it could be a bad ground. I'd check to make sure the radio is getting power properly at the back. If that's okay then I have no clue.
