Custommaxima.com's ad in super street

Is it me or the ad design was not that great? No offense to the one that did it, but I think few guys on here can do better. It needs bigger picture of the cars and some nice ladies would really help.
Everyone know sex sells.

Haven't seen it. What issue was it? Were there any Maxima's featured in the magazine, or is there just CustomMaxima's advertising?

I think its the Sep isuue (aug 9th) It was just an ad for custommaxima.com and place racing. Bigger pics would be cool though

It obviously proves the guy is making money, originally he was not.

Like everything in this world, including the guy with the turbokits (although he denies his $3750 turbokit is a money maker), it's all about the money.

i saw the ad although the over all design of it was borderline it was still cool as hell to see maximas being advertised in the magazine..plus is was a color ad towards the middle of the book and not in the back index black and white section that was another plus..alot of my friends came up to me saying it was weird seing maximas in there..hell if you cant make it in the magazine next best thing is to make it in the ads..

Print ad design is a lost art.

But then again ... we're talking about import mags here.

Show a pretty girl holding some colored shift ***** and the ricers will jizz their pants.

wow i definitley thought there would be a lot more maxima's in it...too bad.

VQDriver - i bought the last spare TR Sniper rim from tirerack like 8months ago as soon as i got another maxima. I knew i would be putting them back on and it was cheaper than buying 4 new rims.

No offense to Greg or whoever designed the ad, but just by taking a quick glance, I can spot several no-no's when designing an ad.

Of course, this is only my personal opinion. I'm just stating this first before I get called arrogant and being a "know-it-all".

First the good:
Tag line is good: "Got a Maxima?" stands out right away. Mostly because it's big and the colors white and yellow stand out against the red background. Unfortunately, alternating the yellow and the white is kind of distracting and "vibrates" when you try to read it.

The lines on the side of the words are not a good idea also. White lines leading out and blending into the paper just draws the eye away from the center and away from the ad. Eyes away from the ad, reader gets the itch to turn the page, and that's not what an ad is supposed to do.

The words in the middle ("Your search for....") are too spread out. The eye can take in only so much and you don't want to make the reader "work" at having to read the ad. Two sentences taking up four lines is too much reading. Especially the first sentence. Quick and to the point is needed, just like the tag line but on a smaller level.

Naming parts is good. Showing parts is better. Again, we are a lazy generation and rather have something given to us than having to work at getting it. Reading takes too much time and is too much work.

Pictures are ok I guess. Just make sure to have the owner's permission. If some parts were in the ad, two of the Maximas could be taken out and show just one.

Web address ... again, too spread out and taking up too much room.

Mostly, the ad is just too "packed". There needs to be some breathing room and some negative space. There's no real need to pack tons of information into the ad and fill up the space with something.

Could make it also a little bit more exciting by not having everything centered.

But with all that said, at least the Maxima community is finally getting some good color ad space and representation. A good step for the community to be noticed.

This is not the new superstreet Ad right? Cause Greg was collecting $30 if ur maxima is selected and there should of been like 20-30 maximas.

Depends on who they belong to. But if you got good ones be prepared to see a lot more modded maximas on the streets. Another catchy ad is if you have a maxima that is modded and a guy sitting on the hood and they girl is on her knees doing god knows what (use your imagination). Now the only problem with that is not every maxima owner reads porno magazines, damn we were so close

we all know there are many people on here with better design skills, but greg has never been one for top notch design and pretty pictures, he gets the job done and gets paid.

i think he could care less..

we should use that picture i showed you tony:

The way i see it, it seems this is Greg's style. I remember back when he was soliciting design ideas for the new logo i sent him some nifty stuff that not only portrays professionalism and economic/ease of use in any media but human psyche as well but none of them got approved.

Then i figured, i was just too aesthetically-centered. I failed to take into account that Greg's style is that of what you see on both his website and the ad.

Not to put down greg at all, but maybe an ad creating contest could have been better. Have people on the org make their rendition of what the ad should look like, then have a big vote for the best looking ad.

I thought the ad was supposed to be FILLED with maximas...oh well, not bad for a first ad, and its better than no ad at all.

Because I am a lazy bastard I only spent 20 minutes on this so it has some minor flaws but it gets the idea across. Also it's a pain in the a$$ to work with tall ads so you should try a horizontal ad instead.
http://www.fanaticnetwork.com/custommaxima.jpg
If I have some more time I will spend much more time and design a horizontal one.
Good Luck,
Paul
