Subject: OBX Exhaust question

Gentleman--I received the OBX exhaust I ordered through the maxima.org groupbuy on Friday. The exhuast is the wrong part. I ordered one for my 96 maxima and received a 97 maxima unit which is not only too long, but has an o2 sensor bung I don't need. Is the b-pipe seperate from the rear section---where as you can order me the 96 b-pipe and I can send you this one---or must I get a completely different exhaust?

thank you for your time

if anyone has a system that they DON'T want, uninstalled, and fits on my 99, then i am interested in purchasing it from you.
i am having trouble communicating with this guy because he doesn't reply to my e-mails, and instead of sending it back, i can purchase it from you.
thanks,

not impressed
hey guys I installed my obx cat along with a test pipe and budget y pipe I must say that the sound is very rice..I dont like it at all the car has a loud drone..I hate it,maybe if i take off the test pipe, but the test pipe is resonated,so i dont know if it will make a diffrence.the loud drone comes from the back off the car, also now i have a check engine light on ??Im going to take off the test pipe and see if it sounds better less drone noise,if not I'll just sell the obx cat..I like how it looks on my max but it does have fitment issues my tip was going to the left..I just might sell it or send it back to obx for it being defecctive..It came with a warranty...How did you guys fix the tip from going to the left..I'm not happy with my setup I dont know if its the obx cat back or the test pipe but something coming off soon,,its to loud the drone is so annoying. Also I did not feel any gains in power ??My car felt faster when I just had the pr intake..Whats wrong with my setup???any help or suggestions you have will gladly be taken..I expected my car to have better gains with the y pipe but it feels the same maybe slower

hey mods could you move this reply to another forum if its not in the correct one.thanks

You have an auto don't you?

The noise is a combination of aftermarket y, test pipe, and catback. And yes, catback is probably the leading cause to your noise issue. Yes, switching out the test pipe for a cat will probably quiet it a bit, maybe enough to leave you satisfied, but in all likelihood, probably not. The biggest contributor to your noise issue is the cat-back.

As for your check engine light, you have a 97+ don't you? You probably have an O2 sensor after your cat, and with the lack of a cat, you are now getting readings from the O2 sensor from behind the cat, telling you your cat has failed, because you don't have one.

As for powerlosses, it's probably because you have an auto, and you have possibly lost a little low end power from over doing the exhaust in terms of optimal flow to cross sectional surface area ratio, where too much volume has lessened flow rate to the point of a loss in power through scavenging.

just put a 5 speed, (like that is easy!!) and then you could keep it in the power band! I'd like one but it's a little out of my price range right now.....rather have some other goodies 17" wheels, UDP, and one of those exhaust systems I didn't get in on Want to sell yours? on second thought if it drones that bad, I don't think I want it with no power increase. More noise, no more power? not an equal trade I don't think.

All of these y-pipe back setups drone. Some more than others. It's just the way it is. And you all should know, a cat-back is 99% for noise/sound, and 1% performance, on a Maxima without forced induction.

I have a Budget Y and the rest is stock, VERY quiet and definately some HP there, It's not factory stock quiet, but there is no drone at all, and it has a nice sound at idle, and moderate sound at WOT i love it. That is why I hate to mess with it, I thought I had seen some posts that said there was no droning with this OBX setup and that is why people liked them.....nice SS but yet quiet enough. Now I'm starting to hear other things.....I think every car has its own resonate freq. and it's just a crap shoot as to what you get when you start messing with the exhaust.
Oh well, I missed out anyway, hope everybody gets what they wanted and it sounds like they want. Maybe it was all for the best. I look at things like that and say, "well I guess it just was not meant to be"
Got the wife a Lexus she's been wanting for about 7K under list so I guess that was meant to be.(I know SHE is happy, and when mamas happy everybodys happy!!) Maybe another exhaust deal will come along and I'll get one, until then, I'll just be happy with what I have. Guess it's the way you look at things.....half full or half empty

I can see 2maximas jumping all over this...
I hope mine will be here soon, and for those who said their catback hung low, did you guys ever think of doing what araffio did with a hose clamp maybe doing that may hold it up higher or if this happens to me I'm gonna take it to a muffler shop (if mine ever gets here).
Is there any other problem with the fitment for this catback?

But now I'm worried about the droning, I've got the same Budget Y pipe but I do still have my cat inplace (he had a test pipe) I'm not sure he still wants to sell it tho....

dont worry about it now, you already bought the piece. luckily the obx b pipe has 2 resonators.
drone ~ 2-2.5k rpm will pretty much always happen if you have aftermarket exhaust, mostly because of the muffler. i took off my stillen muffler and right now have y pipe with stock catback and i hear NOTHING.
but if you order something with an aftermarket muffler (even with 2 resonators on your b pipe) youll hear increased drone most likely. i'm sure theres such a thing as a quieter catback, but i dont think you can replace the stock muffler and b pipe without noise. cant really complain about noise can you? enjoy it

Im kind of iffy to go putting this exhuast on my 96 cause I am afriad it wont fit right, I guess after I get it on, I can go to a local exhaust place and have it mofied a bit to fit like cut it alittle on the b-pipe so it doenst stick out at all. But that screws up the hole idea of getting this brand new SS exhaust . ya know

Well cmac95gxe got his put on his 95 max but he hasn't picked it up from Jeff's shop yet. That will be my basis on wether I will put mine on. I want to see how it looks and how it sounds. If Jeff got his to fit right on his 95 then he should be able to do the same for me. If his turns out good everyone with a 95 and 96 I'll post to let you know.

I accused him of not answering emails and it pi$$ed him off. (He replied) But it is a fact he answers who and when he feels like it. He is definitely a D1ck. I have no idea who started this group deal it’s been a cluster f*&K since the get go. I NEVER got him to respond to an email, to purchase at the .org price. That is when I asked if I had to go through the .org member that had started the group deal, never found out who it was....and I still have not found anyone who wants to sell theirs……Oh well, more money for something else

Cmac95gxe got his installed on his 95. He said it sounds great and evrything fit. He has a hybrid intake and a budget y pipe with a stock cat.Jeff just plugged the hole and it was fine. Also as with everyone else who installed it, the exhaust leans a little to the left. But Tony (araffio) knows how to fix that. Just ask him. I think in conclusion mine will be going on in a couple of weeks.

I got mine installed tonight, it took forever but after all the hard work it paid off. Overall, I like the system but my only problem is which I need to get use to is the intial loudness of when you start the car and at very low (1500-2500) rpms. So far I hear no drone so I'm happy about that.

I have a few minor problem which I would like to fix, suggestions are greatly welcomed: my muffler is angle slighly off to the left and the S-bend (on the passenger side just before the muffler and bpipe flanges) it hangs kinda low.
I know that some of you guys had these two problem before what did you do to fix them? Thanx

i know some of you have, but have most of you guys had an aftermarket exhaust system before this one? you'll just have to get used to the sound, thats the way it is when you upgrade and lose the factory sound deadening equipment.
ghetto is good. when i get mine you better believe its going to be crooked and stay crooked.

lol, i actually fixed mine from shifting to the left wit some cheap metal clamps from home depot. I also have a pic of my b-pipe hanging...

http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....hreadid=189065

the b-pipe (s pipe area) will never fit all the way up because its bigger than stock, but mine was initially too low...they fixed mine and put it up a little by heating the metal making it a little more flexible but u guys can work from there...

well when i get mine if i have to, i will try that clamp thing and give credit where its due. from the looks of your pics of the tip position, that would bother me too i guess.
as for the b pipe, it MIGHT scrape if theres some kind of bump tall enough... we'll see. let us know if you scrape it on anything.

I have a question about the diameter of bpipe. When me and my roomate installed ours yesterday, we measured the diameter of the pipe to be 2.25 in. Others are saying that its 2.5 in
can anyone verify or measured theirs? It would be nice to find out if it was only me and my roomate that got the 2.25in. Thanx.

I'm still waiting on my system. I ordered it through the ssautochrome website at the end of January, but I think that's where the carrying out of my order ended. They never charged my card, and haven't responded to my last 2 emails. Not sure what to think about ssautochrome, other than the fact that their business practices need a little help.

If you have the reciept to the MO, they can check to see if has been cashed. If not, I think you may be able to stop payment.
