Manufacturer claims are 15-20 whp. Real world is more like 12 whp through the entire powerband.

It'll last for a bit because we need a few more people to get it done.

I maybe in, i have the ecu already but praying to the money gods that I will have enough for the chip. BTW, I ran the stock 96 ecu on my 98 which ran fine however I threw codes such as 0505, and others like rear o2, knock sensor and fuel pump control. Just a thought... but I'll know by the 10th of may.

Try the FAQ's pages in the 4th gen forum. If you can't find anything just do it yourself. I will admit is a little hard but not impossible. If I remember correctly all you have to do is remove the plug with a 10mm socket and 4 screws 2 on each side of the ecu. After you remove these screws it should slide out. It will be a little tight in there because the wire harness is wraped over the ecu but you will be able to figure it out. After your done bringing it out you will have to remove the 4 small phyllips (<-not spelled right) screws to remove it from the metal bracket for shipping. I also noticed that is alot easier to put it back in if you do it separately bracket first and ecu second.

I just bought the Haynes manual today and scanned the page regarding ECU removal. PM me with your email address if you want. It's not referred to as an ECU but rather, as a PCM (Powertrain Control Modules). Same thing?

For everyone who is looking for a spare ecu!!!
Check this website: www.car-part.com
click on 95 or 96, maxima (82 and up), click on computer box engine. From there choose whatever one you need... hope this helps.

Thanks for the Link, I have a question. How do I know if the '96 ECU on car-parts is compatible with my '97? Also which date for the ECU would possibly not throw a CEL for my '97. Is it the production date of the ECU of an 11/96? Thanks

Andy

I believe 97s use 11/96 ECUs so it wouldn't throw a CEL but I don't know for sure.

You know, if this takes long enough, Technosquare may be able to incorporate the increased rev limiter...that'd be well worth $380.

well I hope we don't wait any longer just for a raised rev limiter. Without a mevi there's no reason to spool your engine up to 7k other than to wear it out faster.

Update as of 4/26/04
Ok guys here it is. I called Danny today to make sure he got me e-mail message containing the name list and to ask him how and what he wanted us to do.
1st thing we have to do is fill out the "Techno Ecu Reprogramming Information Sheet provided at technosqure.com (here's the link). http://www.technosquareinc.com/packing.htm
Fill it out and next to your name put "Maxima.org member ________ / Group Deal" (Put your screen name on the blank space) Make sure you put the correct address where the ecu is going to be sent to and returned to.(Techno's address is provided on the top part of the Info. Sheet). On the Payment info. part if you decide to have them call you for Credit Card Info. make sure you provide your cell phone # or a number they can get a hold of you at all times so they wont be delayed. Make sure you remove the metal bracket from the ecu and wrap the ecu with a buble sheet so it wont get damaged during shipping. Make sure you include the info. sheet with the ecu so that they know what to do with it. I also asked him how much it would cost if any to add the incresed rev limiter to our ecu's once they get it and he said that it will probably be a couple of months before they will provide it and that it will cost us only $150 to add it to our ecu's if we are interested. O.K. so here is the list go ahead and start sending them in. If you have any questions let me know. Man this is alot of work!!!

The way I look at it it's not like everyone on the first half is going to send their ecu's the same day so Techno can't get that bogged down so if you dont mind waiting an extra day or so for your ecu send yours in with the first half of the group I don't think it will be a problem. I'm giving everyone the go ahead if they have the money and ecu to do it. Remeber it takes 2 days to get it back from them once they receive it.
