Why couldn't they just make the grill out of aluminum or stainless steel? What's the point of using regular steel following it up with powdercoating and then clear coating. Use the right material to start with and save all these hassle. Bad R&D on their part or lack of common sense.

As with all companies, they want to maximize profit and hence the use of cheaper metal.

Powercoating and clear coating aren't free processes. They are not maximize their profit at all. This company really needs to get a clue. The remark about Brembo brake rotor rusting shows the person's automotive knowledge. She needs to read up why brake rotors are made out of steel instead of other material. Yes, all cars should have ceramic rotors so we don't have to see rust.

I'm pretty sure clearcoating turned out to be cheaper for them as opposed to using aluminum or other rust-proof metal in the first place. Uhhh, where did I mention anything about brake rotors?

yeah dude, thats what I have, just the lower inserts, since the upper grille (stock) is one of the reasons why I bought this car. My lower inserts are now silvery orangey brown. Its quite amazing..... but when summer rolls around, i gotta pull out the steel brush and repaint it.... sucks...

It is a lot cheaper than using stainless or aluminum though. We powdercoat a lot of things, and it is actually really cheap if you do high volume runs of the same color. Since all their grills are the same color, it would be much cheaper for them to use low grade steel and powdercoat then clearcoat as opposed to aluminum or SS. It's a pretty big price difference. But, if they know that their process is causing problems, then of course they should remedy that. A few customers have problems, it may be isolated, however, when this many people come forward, any decent company would make design changes to prevent the problem. And a really good company would offer some kind of exchange program. But apparently they are none of the above.

I have the lower grills, which I made sure to double-coat with rustoleum before putting them on back in May. Even with the rusto, by September they were already spotted with rust... I'm waiting till the spring to take 'em off and try and clean them up.

I did the same in the summer, took off all the rust, & repainted w/two coats of Rustoleum & clearcoat. By end of Nov. they were already rusted. There's no way to rustproof these damn things IMO. Waste of $$ (on the grille's themselves & the paint to fix this crappy product).

Grill-Tech simply alienated the entire ORG! If they don't come back here and apologize to Kloogy and other members, I say we lock this thread and put it as a sticky to warn other buyers not to purchase from them. Instead of trying to defend their product, they went and attacked our member. Not only that, they are using Kloogy pictures to sell their product.
Kloogy, if you never signed anything, sue them for stealing your pictures. This will fall under copyright violation.
3 months warranty? What the hell is that? That clearly shows their "confidence" in their own product.
