from what i know, 5 wires is how many these grounding kits usually come with. and the wires connect to different places in the engine (battery, strut tower, engine block, etc... )

Steve (Y2kSESteve) has them on his car. It comes with 5 wires, and does NOT have a terminal. I don't have them yet, I just got my new car, but I am putting them on my G this weekend.

Thanks
Alex

Max8 you said that this kit does NOT have a terminal...im not too knowledgable about grounding kits and just want to know what that is...

Why would you want a base?

http://www.mattblehm.com/engine.html

Bolt 'em directly to the primary engine grounding point!

Built mine for less than $10. Go to Home Depot, get 15Ft og 8 AWG ground wire(comes in all sorts of pretty colours), get some wire terminals and some shrink wrap at any auto parts store, and spend an afternoon getting creative!

FNG,
I just want to personally thank you for not falling into the cauldren of wasted money. I highly respect the fact that you have enough insight to know just how simple it is to create your own grounding straps at a fraction of the cost of a pre-fabbed kit I might add. Doing stuff yourself is becoming a lost art around here & I just wanted to tell you how grateful I am that you have renewed my sense of faith in our community.

FNG do u have any pictures or a write up of where to ground it all to? and how do u wire all of them to your negative terminal, should i buy 4 gauge or will 8 gauge be sufficient also is the shrink wrap necessary? thanks in advance

8 guage is more than enough. The only 4 guage wire I used was a new negative battery cable I had sitting on a shelf. the shrink wrap is only a couple of $ and you cut it so you have enough to cover the end of the wire and the terminal. It will help to keep your wire from corroding at the ends. I connected my wires to the bracket that the factory battery negative connects to. You 4th gen guy's should do a search on www.VQpower.com. A guy there had a write up for 4th Gens. I'll try and post pics tommorow. I'm at work right now!

Found the article on VQ power.http://www.vqpower.com/v2/modules.ph...howpage&pid=68 the block isn't needed. I would just look for the battery ground bracket. I would also suggest grounding at the little factory grounds like the one he shows on the headlight pic. I grounded all on the engine, with one for the Alternator. i'll try and look for the best spots to ground on a VQ and take pics.

Might be another day or two on the pics. I'm on nights, so I don't have a lot of tome during the day. I took pics of the setup on my VE today, but my computer at work won't let me install the program or the camera without administrative access. So I have to download them at home and then e-mail them to myself! I ran out of time before work. Kinda sucks.

the purpose is to augment the factory ground wires. They are tiny, and run throughout the whole underhood harness. By adding larger ground wires at certain locations, the computer is better able to "read" what the sensors are telling it. the results are better throttle response, smoother idle, maybe a little fuel economy, and some claim a little more power. Even if it doesn't do much for mileage or power, I can say that my engine runs alot smoother, and throttle response feals crisper. For
$10-$20 and some time it's worth it! Oh, and it's simple to do.

Hey Gary, JC's done it to his car for about 100 bux or so. So $40 bux ain't bad and $10 bux is even better.

Can't hurt to run it to the alternator. not sure about using 4 AWG all around, but go for it!
