I'm looking at either the exedy or spec clutches, has everyone had good experiences with the spec clutches??
I noticed that the spec stage two is chatterless, that sure would be nice I wonder if thats true or not.

i have a lot of miles on my SPEC STAGE II, about 2300 miles. Less chatter but drivability is still not the same as my exedy stage 1 and nowhere as good as my boy's turbo maxima with act stage II. He only has 900 miles on his, maybe less and feels just like my exedy. But my exedy was slipping with Supercharger. There are ways to drive spec stage II where it comes out smooth but i'm still not happy with it. Especially when ACT which is supposed to be the "worst" clutch for tranny feels 10 times better....

ACT makes great clutches but the time they last because of the stiff pedal is usually 10k-20k miles.

dude, if you don't turbo or supercharge you car, don't do stage 3. it'll tire you out really soon. without force induction, your maximum stage should be 2. even SPEC technicians told me to go stage 2 if i am all bolt-ons with maybe a little nitrous
Would a SPEC Stage 1 be ok with a small squeeze of nitrous?
I dont plan on going S/C or T/C any time soon. I was hoping to get a ypipe, catback, and a Nitrous Express Kit, nothing huge just a 50 shot or so..

Thanks
Thanks
We will do another deal. And the Spec prices are still up to date. And Shipping is free. I need to update the ACT prices as they have gone up by 5% with the new price sheets. Centerforce and a few others that changed also. I will be updating the lists and my website over this week and will post.
hey ya'll, car just pulled out of the shop with spec stage II and stillen flywheel.
this is a very nicely put combo. drivability is like a totally different car.
the pedal is extremely soft and light. then the gear engages so early that i stalled the car a couple times before i learn the driving. but it grabs really hard though. and no chattering at all!!!
i posted this on the 4th gen discussion already but i'll say it again. chatter comes from a dirty job done. i read this over and over from the mustang forum. almost half of mustang modders use spec for clutch upgrades. they all said that this chatter comes from dirty friction surfaces. in fact, even the lightest finger print on the kelvar surface will cause chatter after installation. after that dirt is grinded up, chatter disappears. that's how sensitive kevlar is. the mechanics and i did the installation together, and i sprayed the mechanical cleaning solution on the surfaces. Not just the kevlar clutch pp, we also have to spray clean the flywheel friction surface. after installation, there is no chatter whatsoever. so, if you go for clutch mods, it's really safe to do spec stage 2. and besides, this clutch kit is in between act stage 1 and 2. i think this is the best clutch mod to get if you are staying all motors. this is probably the furthest to go before going FI.

yes, i agree, this is fine for FI, too. but my emphasis is on those who wants to stay all motors and not going to deep into the clutching stages. I think this is the best and the furthest we should go if staying all motors. And the SPEC specialists also said that this is also a clutch that'll handle minor boosts in FI. They however recommend Stage 3 If boost gains are over 100 horsepower to the wheel. That'll be the 4-6 puck discs that kick the stomps to an even harder level.
why does everyone here need stage 3's for boosting...if you take a poll, there is a lot of S/C'ed guys....(lower torque and it peaks higher mind you than a T/C'ed max) are running the ACT and Exedy stage 1's....and are holding just fine with the 2.87 pulley's and all other supporting mods...and such...do why is everything going all crazy and putting a lot more stress on their tranny by going with stage 2's and stage 3's when most of our maximas put out at the max somewhere around 340-360whp if S/C'ed and maybe, maybe more if T/C'ed...seems to me the stage 3 clutches were primarily and originally developed for supra's and z's and such that are running 5-6 hundred whp...in most of the S/C'ed max's...the most tq is 300 at the wheels...something a stage 1 could easily hold!! the T/C'ed guys I can understand getting a stage 2...

well, that's really some good points taken. when i called SPEC to order their clutches, I told them how I am staying all motor and maybe boost some Nitrous shots, they told me to go stage 2. and then they told me if i go Turbo or Supercharging, I'll need stage 3. I also noticed that SPEC made clutches for 5 different stages. Needless to say, they are trying to match every kinds of stage demands. SPEC stage 2 clutch kit is somewhat compared to ACT's in between stage 1 and 2. So these stage talks are not to be generalized to all applications. We must speak as though "brands" matter and make differences. Different brand clutches with different stages are different than others claimed to be in the "same" stage level. That's what I was taught.
