VQ 30 and 35 4th and 5th gen Stainless Steel Clutch lines !!
Will we have to ship back the original short ss line back to you before we can get a replacement or can you ship the new long line to us and then we ship the short line to you? I would prefer to be able to drive my car when getting the new line and I only want to have to bleed the system as few times as possible. I don't have a stock line to revert back to.

UPDATE:
Just got done talking to the guys from Technafit and here's the news. They purchased the line from OEM Nissan Equipment and have found that it is exactly the same length as the line they are selling. The line replaces the upper clutch line, and they believe that some of the confusion might be that people are trying to replace the wrong clutch line when doing this swap because there is both an upper and lower clutch line. This is for the upper line. So as of right now the GD is still on and the lines that were sent out with the proper length!

Derrick, there may be some confusion. The 5th gen and 4th gen are different body styles and the manufacturing company may be only checking one of the cars. Is it possible that these complaints are coming from only the 4th Generation max and that length may be off?

There are only two oem lines for your clutch, he (technafit owner) called them the "upper line" and the "lower line", so I am guessing if you get a chance to check out your clutch lines, it will be the one higher up. Other than that I don't have any pics, maybe someone that has done the install can help out here.
This is very wierd. A look at the FSM reveals that there are infact two soft lines in the system which can obviously be confirmed by the people that have installed this new unit so far. The FSM shows one soft line coming from the Slave Cylinder and coming down to connect with a another soft line. The FSM labels #11 as clutch hose but neglects to mention what the other one is. I looked all through the clutch section and nothing in it names this lower hose. Anyway. The fittings on the SS lines that I have sitting on my desk match the diagrams' fitting of the unlabeled line. The hose labeled as #11 has a box fitting on one end and the SS line that Technafit does not. This would lead me to believe that they designed the hose to replace the unlabeled unit instead of what I would call the upper line. Maybe its one of those wierd things about symantics.
Well, cardomain won't allow me to upload pics at the moment but I think you get the idea if you have the aftermarket line in your hand and are looking at the fittings on the FSM it appears that the Technafit unit is not #11. In reality all this speculation is not required because there are people that have already installed the piece. So, I ask those people: Are there two soft lines? Its it obvious that the SS line will only connect in one of the position due to the fitting types? Also, in reality I have no idea what I'm talking about because I'm auto.

To me it looks like both the Clutch Hose [11] and the unmarked hose (between washers [17]) have the banjo connection. Number 11 has the Clutch Hose Connector [18] which of course the SS line does not have, but I wonder if that is a separate part that the line can connect to.
Either way, I'm annoyed that there is apparently still going to be a length of rubber in the clutch line after installing this, and evidently a LONGER stretch of rubber than the section the SS line will be replacing!!! No rubber...rubber bad.

Good point VQuick, I actually asked him about this "second" rubber line. I thought the exact same thing when hearing there were two lines, and I asked him that since we are replacing one and leaving the other one wouldn't it be way better to replace both while down there? He told me that it wouldn't hurt, but that the "Upper" line that we are replacing is going to be the serious improvement. This is where the best bang for the buck was, which is why he did not originally, or even now, offer me the second line!
ON A SIDE NOTE: Paypal has been having problems (as those of you who have been reading the papers or watching the news are aware of) and because of this some payments are going in and out of my account. I am as confused as the next person, so if you sent a payment and your line does not ship for a day or two, just be patient. I am totally lost with what is going on.

It appears there is, what I would call, an "upper" line going from the master cylinder side (a steel line from the master cylinder to a termination where this hose probably connects) to a little square which is bolted to the tranny, and this likely needs to be flexible to allow for tranny/engine shifting on its mounts.
The lower line, which I think the image above depicts, goes from this square piece to the slave cylinder. Since this piece does not need to flex all the time, maybe Nissan designed it stiffer? If that's the case, Technafit's premise may be correct, in that the upper line's replacement would make the most difference. Personally, I'd rather have one long piece that goes from the master cylinder side straight to the slave cylinder, maybe zip-tieing it to the tranny around that center point.

IMPORTANT UPDATE:
I spoke to technafit again and have found out that the clutch line that we shipped out is the correct length for all VQ30DE 4th gens and 5th gens, but maybe be an inch or two too short for the VQ35DE. Can anyone that has installed confirm this? Is the length problem with the 35's? Let me know! If you have a VQ35DE, simply return your clutch line to me and I will ship out the proper sized line to you! All other cars you are fine and good to go! Thanks so much to everyone for being patient through this whole deal!

Well I installed the "too short" SS line today on my 4th gen (96 I30 lines) and noticed a slight improvement on the overall clutch pedal feel. A little firmer i would say, less mushy. Anyways, I'll try to help clarify this whole issue of being to short and what it actually replaces.
First of all, as spirilis describes in the previous post there are two rubber lines with a box in the middle, this is the same for my car. The upper line (7.5 inches) is connected to the hardline and to the box with the banjo bolt. The lower line (9.5 inches)is permanantly attached to the box and goes to the slave that attaches with a banjo. Both of these rubber and exactly the same material (same part number etc).
So you have two options replace both of them with your SS line that is way to short, or replace the upper line (which the SS line is 2x the length, and ur still left with a rubber line after. I chose to use my short SS line to replace both of the rubber ones and make the SS fit. To do this you have to take off the bracket that its on, and move it somewhere where the SS and the hardline will reach. You have to bend out the hardlines or your bracket will have no where to bolt on too, and you have to have enough slack in the SS so when the engine moves it doesnt put stress on it.
So you have to bend out the hardlines, use the original and mount is somewhere else (or make your own), and then your good to put the SS line in.
Another thing, Technfit did not make this for the 4th gen. Its way to short to replace both unless you mod stuff to make it fit, and is twice the length to replace the upper line. The fact that they would say it only replaces the upper, leaving the lower rubber one is dumb. Why would you make one just to replace the upper when you just have to add 2 inches to replace both of them. And on top of that, leave a peice of rubber right after the SS line????
So whatever, the SS line is fine if you just want to mod little stuff to make it fit. Is it worth the 25 bucks? Ya i guess, but still, its not made for the 4th gen. You can probably find a lot of other SS lines that arent made for the car that will be the correct length.
Hope this helps you guys. Sorry I don't know any 5th gens or i would check those out to see the similarities.

dblrr900, can you email me and let me know from what email address you paypaled me from so that I know what gen your car was?
On to the whole topic of the line being too short: I am as confused as anyone here. I own a 3rd gen so I have no comparison to really check these lines out with. But, what I do know is that they told me they matched it up (they being technafit) to an oem line they ordered from nissan and made it the same length. It is how they make all of their clutch lines to make sure they fit properly. From reading your post, spindation, it seems as if the line is both 1.) too long to replace just the upper by at least 2x and 2.) too short to replace the whole thing by a few inches. Is this correct? I will bring this info back to them and try to get this sorted out.
Spindation: What length should the line be to make it so that it would replace the entire section? This is beginning to get very confusing, and even a bit frustrating because I am hearing different stories from both sides!

When I received the part and when I ordered I ordered I thought that it was only the upper line because it did not come with the block thing that connects the line. When I got to the install it seemed too long for just the upper line (IIRC the OEM upper line was very short) so I streched the SS line out and it was just short of reaching the whole length.
I will take some pictures tomorrow of how my line is run and I am not sure if I still have my stock stuff or not but I will try to show a comparision.
I can see why you could possibly want to just replace one piece (this was my original intention), but I would much rather the whole thing be SS. I realize this is frustrating to everyone but in my opinion, derrick can you just tell technafit to make the new batch a few inches longer and be done with it.
Lets have a list of who a line that was too short and the year of the car
1)h2kSPiG 95
2)enticiveblkmax 97
3)Broaner 95-96?
4)spindation 98
Anyone else? All of those seem like 4th gens.

Just to confirm h2kspig, I have OEM lines out of a 96 I30. And as he already posted earlier http://www.motorvate.ca/mvp.php/802 shows the two lines with the box in the middle that we are talking about.
Derrick, sorry you are in a such a hard postion, having Technafit tell you one thing and your customers tell you another. I took the OEM lines and measured them with the box included. I would have them make a line thats 18 inches. The 18 is from the very end of the banjo connector to the very end of the hardline connector. This should give the correct length to replace both the lines. I wouldnt be suprised if Technafit already had a line for another car with that length.
Good luck with Technafit and hopefully they will actually do something.

Broaner ('95) and I ('99) haven't tried to install the SS lines yet. He's still autotragic anyway.
I would really prefer to send our two lines back and get ~18" lines to replace all the rubber lines without bending hard lines. Derrick, please let us know what Technafit says regarding longer lines.

i dont get what the problem is? its only adding on 1-2 inches. I matched up the SS line with an OEM 4th gen clutch line and it is too short...i dunno what Technafit is matching it up to but obviously not a 4th gen line.
there are 2 rubber hoses, 1 from the slave to a junction block, the block is mounted to the motor mount, then from the block to a hard line. why would technafit say you only replace 1 rubber hose? thats stupid. Actually....if you think about it, you cant replace 1 rubber hose, cause 1 end of the SS line is a banjo fitting, the other is a flare fitting...so it has to replace both rubber hoses..and it still is too short...and i thought technafit had good customer service..

Hi everyone again. I will be contacting technafit on Monday to try and resolve this. I will simply tell them they are wrong about the length and have them make an 18" line. I think I have an idea where they went wrong, and will talk to them about it.
Matthel: don't be so hard on technafit! They do have GREAT customer service! The fact that the owner personally went out and bought an oem clutch line to compare lengths shows how great their customer service really is. I am sure, without a doubt, that this is just a big misunderstanding, and once it gets resolved we should be fine.
I will keep everyone informed, give me a few days as this is taking a lot of time now!

Thanks Derrick for being so on the ball on this issue! We all truly appreciate it.
You should send Technafit the link to this thread so they can read the posts by people who have installed the line and have given very detailed descriptions of clutch line anatomy.

I had bought that same line and the fitting that shows in the picture, the end that connects to the master cylinder is the wrong size, at least the one in the picture shown. Just don't want people to have to send it back. I had bought it straight from techna-fit. Awsome customer service. I sent the line back along witht he nipples and what not for them to figure out what size i needed.

When Techna fit listens and lengthens the line, get one.
It has been about a week with the "made to fit" clutch line and I am pretty happy with it. The pedal feel is slightly firmer and I noticed the clutch chatter (JWT,sII) has been reduced.

What I used to replace both rubber lines was a brake line from a Goodridge set of reinforced brake lines. Those are long enough to reach from the slave cylinder all the way to the hard line from the master cylinder.

UPDATE AGAIN 10/18/04
For everyone that has purchased the line and wants the proper fitting (lengthwise) line read here:
I spoke to technafit today and told them that regardless of what length they have there measured, we need it 2" longer for our VQ's. They have agreed to accept the old lines back and replace them with the 2" longer ones. All I need is for everyone that wants a line to mail them back to me, and here are the instructions:
Mail to:
VQ Clutch line replacement
8457 Mango Way
Buena Park, CA 90620
Along with the enclosed clutch line please include a piece of paper where you have written what address you want the new clutch line sent to, your full name, your contact email address, and the year of your maxima. This is important, please do not miss any info!
Also on a side note, I will be mailing all the new lines back out, and I have a feeling this is going to cost me an arm and a leg, so AS AN OPTION if you want to help out with my postage fees, please include $1.00 along with your line to help me cover postage costs.
The extra $1.00 is optional as I don't want to force anyone to send money since this really wasn't your fault, but it wasn't mine either, and I'm going to take quite a hit when all these lines come back to me, so I guess it's just to help out a fellow .orger!
If anyone has any questions email me at ieatstrawberries@hotmail.com or PM me.
FOR ANYONE THAT HAS PLACED ORDERS RECENTLY:
Your line has not shipped out yet because of this length issue. I have ordered some of the new lines and when those come in yours should go out. Expect htem within a week, and I apologize for the delay!
Phew, that is all.

Also ATTN: 5th gen VQ35DE owners that paid for your line:
Has anyone actually tried installing this on a VQ35 yet? I was told it is the same, but now I am not sure. If you have already successfully installed let me know, if you are having the same length issue also let me know. If not, I have to have technafit make a new line for the VQ35 owners, but I want to make sure they don't go and make it 2" too short again, so if someone could measure the total length or give me an idea that would be most helpful, thanks!

Derrick, I must say this is awesome customer service, especially so for a group deal! Thanks much.
Broaner, can you send back our lines to Derrick with $2 and the new shipment info (name, address, e-mail address, and years of our Maximas)?

just to reconfirm, will this essentially replace both upper and lower line or will it just suffice replacing the upper line. the general concensus seems to be that replacing both lines would be wise...you know, like just get them both over with.
