I find it easy to get to the filter if you remove the driver side headlight on the 5th gens, pull down the fender cover beneath the fender compartment and remove the sidemarker lamp temporarily. I stick a light under there to see even better. The hole beneath the headlight is where I stick my extension/8mm socket/ratchet for loosening/tightening the hose clamp on the filter.

But you still had to drill a hole right?

I've never had a problem with mine. I live in a sometime flooded area also. You will get water inside the cabin of your car before you get any sucked up your intake. The Cone airfilter sits too high to suck up water.

Okay guys/girls, here's the latest. We have only 1 confirmed CAI buyers. We still need 9 more to go thru with this group deal. I really want to make this happen. If you are really serious and want one of these intakes then please get your orders in. Just because you post on here that you want one does not confirm your order. Whether your going to pay by credit card, paypal or money order just get yours ordered. I don't mean to rush but I really had to bug "The Cattman" to get these CAI at this price. So, come guys/girls lets get some more orders in asap so this can be a guaranteed deal not, to mention get them shipped out too. Also, if you have any questions or concerns, just email me or pm me. NismoMaximaGTR@yahoo.com.

well, my first question is this...I deliver newspapers in the morning, which means a lot of stop and go...A LOT...If i add a CAI, will this damage the car...I mean all the stopping and going (we are talking I apply brakes like 100 times in 2 hours, if not more...and apply gas just as much...but usually stay in 1st and 2nd gear)...If someone can say NO, this will not cause any problems, then I am so IN! and will call on Monday (or whenever I receive the answer to the question) I really wanna add a CAI, but also dont wanna ruin my car because I need it for the job that pays for all this stuff.

from what i have read, with CAI you will not lose low end torque. i know with other intakes there is some loss in low end. i don't think this will damage your car. if anything the stop and go for 2 hours a day will take it's toll on your tranny and engine in the long run. intake should not cause any damage.
Q: how many times a year do you have to replace your brakes?

Q. Does anyone have pics of cut out for the filter in the fender?

I am not too secure with my automotive skills and having 2nd thoughts about doing this myself. I am in for the buy, but am thinking about having someone do this for me. Luckily, if I choose the lazy/wussy route, there is a local Nissan/Infiniti shop that I trust.

Thanks, Les

Ammi,

Your concern is understandable, but this really isn't a big deal. This was the very first mod that i did to my max over 2 years ago and i had zero mechanical automotive expirience at the time. It took me a little while to install it completely, but drilling the hole itself was actually one of the easy parts. There's a template included in the package that shows you EXACTLY where you should do the drilling. If you have any know-how with tools whatsoever, than this install is an easy one. Getting to the filter for cleaning is a breeze as well. You just have to undo a few clips and pull back the splash guard and there the filter sits.

BTW, this is an awesome deal. I paid around 250 new for mine a couple of years ago and I still love hearing the growl that it makes all the way to redline.

Hope this helps,
Nathan

If anyone one is worried about the hole they have to make in the fender. Don't worry. You can always make the CAI into a short ram. But the hole really isn't that big of a deal. The metal where you make the hole is pretty thin and easy to cut out. I cut mine out with a dremel tool and also smoothed the edges with it too. Either way CAI or Short ram it's still a really good deal. Especially with the MonsterFLow filter. The hole package looks nice, but the most enjoyable thing is definitely the sound. I constantly have people asking me "what do you got on that Maxima". All I say is. "Just an intake". They don't believe me of course. Until I show them under the hood. Anyways I really hope this Group Deal can go on. I would like to see more souped up Maxima's out there tearin up the streets and scarin some Honda's.

I already have Stillen intake. Only reason why I would buy this intake is because it's seems like an actual CAI. Very tempting............

it's easier to make the hole w/a hole saw...nice and even. the only reason i would be concerned about putting the hole there is if you happen to blow your maf under warranty and need to take it out and they notice the hole and know what it is other than that it's easy cake. Are these exactly like the cattman cai's? I am very interested. Just need to check the money situation...

Do I just have to call them up if i want to use my CC and mention the group deal?

This REAL cold air intake style, the install is easy but can take some time. The hole you need to drill is no big deal, if you went back to stock you could barely see the hole. The battery and fusebox would pretty much cover the hole. IMO the CAI has the best performance and sound. There's no intake that can make the awesome cold air hissing at idle.

The install instructions I used were from this site! Don't forget about the shop talk section! You don't need a huge hole, just big enough to fit the tube through, you attach the filter from underneath.

https://maxima.org/modules.php?name=CAI

This is a great deal, I say go for it.

Installation took me about 1 hour and 45 minutes. Most of it was cutting out the hole. That was when I had no experience installing one. This job is pretty easy. Even if you're no the most mechanically inclined. Also I will be checking on the current numbers of confirmed buyers. Look for my post either tomorrow or Friday. Thanks everyone for being patient.
