Because the needles are tinted red, you can use a blue kit but it will come out a mix of blue and red. Different needles show the red differently, Nissans usually make a good red kit.

The kits don't come new needles. They use LED light rings that go under the stock needles. You can wire the power and ground behind the gauge cluster. They come with directions for the install.

The needle kits are available in Sonic Blue, Hyper Red, Orange Dream, and Super Green. They work with factory gauges as well and any type of indiglo or custom gauges. They will work on any car as long as your car meets the requirements. For any color needle kit to work on your car, your needles have to be clear in the middle. If they have orange, red, or white painted on the top or bottom it will have to be removed and the bottom of the needle will have to be painted white. If the needles are not completely clear, but are tinted red or orange, the color of the tint will mix with the blue and it will not look right. If you get the needle kit that matches the tint of the needle it will look good. If the needles are a solid color all the way through, the needle kit will not work. If you can't tell send me a picture and I will tell you for sure.

So for a 5.5 gen, there is no way or a replacement needle to change the color of the needle?

if i currently have blue LED bulbs as the backlight, and i purchase the red needle kit, will i get a ring of purple color around the needle area? are these LED rings somewhat shielded to prevent the mixing of colors?

They will work but the color won't come out blue because the needles are tinted red. They will prolly come out purple.

can I see a pic of the kit uninstalled...I'd like to see how it looks...I think any color will work on a 99 max with the red needles because the tinting is only paint. All you gotta do is sand the underneath of the needles and it'll work perfectly...I'd just like to see the kit so I know what I'm buying...

I don't have a pic of the kit not installed. It uses small LED light rings that go under the stock needles. Any color would work but the blue kit won't come out blue because of the mix of red and blue.

That is how you do it normally but that won't help if the needle kit tinted all the way through.
