Whats recommended for my car?

1993 Maxima GXE VG motor...155/k miles..has oil leaks I havent yet fixed ( I assume buying expensive oil will just be a waste but maybe there is a great oil that may help slow it?) I have to pull the trans and see what is broken in it but for the re-install what is the best trans fluid and how much. Also...what are the best oil and air filters I can get? also..I need to replace some power steering lines so Ill need to re-fill that too..recommendations?

Prices shipped to 60563. Thanks

Sent you a PM...trying to match you with the best products for your needs and have some questions concerning your requirement. AMSOIL also offers two cone-type air filters that meet your description...one has a slightly larger diameter than the other. Please take a look at the link I sent and let me know which one you think would be the best fit. Thx

Recommend you have the mechanical issues repaired before you even consider switching to a synthetic oil.

AMSOIL offers a complete line of premium synthetic lubricants and filtration products. Please refer to my original post which starts this thread as I describe the features of several of the most popular products for automotive use.

For specific product recommendations, I recommend you go to my website at http://www.lubedealer.com/lonestarlubes/ . On the left side of the page, click on the link to the OnLine Product Lookup Guide. The site will prompt you for information concerning the make and model of your car and based on that, it will provide you with oil, transmission fluid, filter recommendations and other information (capacities, torque settings, etc) specific to your vehicle.

If at some future date you decide to make the switch, let me know...

thanks

Could you please quote me on a per quart price for the 100% fully synthetic oil, and per filter for the Amsoil filter and the Wix filter? I have a VQ30 and would want the 5w-30. Also, could you please give me per quart price on the GL-4 gear oil? Thanks.

EDIT - Oops, that's to 15071.

AMSOIL Signature Series 0w-30 replaced Series 2000 0w-30 a few years a go. The new Signature Series oil is has been supplemented with a proprietary ashless antiwear system for improved heat and viscosity control and it boasts a 10 percent increase in TBN (13.2) compared to TSO. SSO also contains specialized anti-wear technology resulting in outstanding protection against wear under the most severe operating conditions.

Sent you a quote to have the products shipped directly to you, and one should you prefer to pick up the products from your local product center. Please let me know if I can help.

thx, ed

Interested in quote for case of SSO 0w30, or whatever the most economical way to order it is. Also for EAO and Wix filters (2004 Maxima SL). Also interested in the cost of 2.5 gallon ATF. Shiiping would be to 84104. Thanks

Sent you a PM with the cost and ordering information. Since you asked for a case of oil, I priced your order with two filters (two AMSOIL or two Wix). Let me know if you have any questions or if you want to alter the quantities...real easy for me to make adjustments. Thx

Hello, I have a 1989 Maxima Auto and want to try Amsoil products. Generally I use synthetic 10W-30 oil, but the car only has about 95K miles on it. I'm not sure if I should order Amsoil regular synthetic 10W-30, 5W-30, 10W-40 or Signature Series 0W-30. What would be the best oil for me in Florida (32615)? Also, if you could post the answer here so others can benefit I would appreciate it.

You can send me a price quote via PM for 5 Qts. of oil and filter.

My trans is starting to slip, so I need to replace that. Will Amsoil product help with slipping? I am thinking to swap to a manual trans. I also need to change out my power steering pump. Please send me a quote for enough ATF for a full swap of auto trans and PS pump, as well as just PS pump and manual trans. Thanks.

According to my application guide, 10w-30 is the viscosity preferred for your vehicle, but it lists other options for your vehicle including 5w-30, 10w-40, 20w-40, and 20w-50. Its interesting that AMSOIL recommends either their 5w-40 European oil or 10w-40 XL for your particular application...just guessing, but these recommendations could be based on the requirements of your engine since its over 20 years old...as you may know, the API imposed limitations on the amount of ZDDP anti-wear additives that can be included in SM rated passenger car motor oils (essentially 10w-30 and lighter). 5w-40 and 10w-40 can contain higher amounts of these additives. I'll check with AMSOIL tech services and see if they can offer any insight into their recommendation. But generally speaking, any of the oils you mention would be satisfactory for use in Florida...if back in '89 Nissan recommended 10w-30 for your engine, any of the 30-weight oils will provide the proper film strength...I use Signature Series 0w-30 in my own vehicles and I live in south-central Texas...I have absolutely no concern in using this oil in the heat we have here.

Please let me hear back from tech services and I'll give you a price on the oil and filter. Are you interested in an AMSOIL filter or Wix? AMSOIL filters are arguably the best (most efficient/longest lasting) filters in the industry and they are comparably priced with a mobil-1 filter. Wix filters are also great filters...highly efficient, excellent construction, generous amount of filtering medium...wix filters will provide excellent service for the full length of the OEM's service recommendation (typically 7500 miles). Wix filters are approximately half the price of the AMSOIL Ea filter. So if you intend to change the oil and filter at 7500 miles or less, the Wix would be the better value.

While I'd like to sell you transmission fluid, I'd have to say that it will probably not help/solve your slipping issues. AMSOIL lubricants won't fix mechanical problems. Recommend you get the transmission replaced, then consider switching to AMSOIL.

If you switch to a manual transmission, AMSOIL offers an excellent GL-4 that is made specifically for manual transmissions and other applications requiring a GL-4 lubricant. Don't use a GL-5 or any product labeled as GL-4/GL5...the additive packages in these lubes can be corrosive to the soft metals in a manual transmission and can adversely affect shift quality. When you decide which way you are going to go, I can fix you up with the correct fluid, to include ATF for your power steering

If you want to go with AMSOIL 10w-30, I can send you a quote over the weekend. However, if you want to wait until I consult with AMSOIL tech services, it will be early next week. I still need to know which filter you are interested in.

Thx

Thank you for the extended reply. I most likely will go with the 10W-30, but I still would like to hear from the AMSOIL Tech Services which oil would be best for my application. Yes, my car is over 20 years old, but it is the same engine as was used until 1994 and has only 95,xxx miles on it. So, that may also be a consideration. I may like to use the signature series 0W-30 because of its higher performance properties and hope to turbo the car at some point. As for the filter I would like a quote with both the AMSOIL and WIX filters. I'll let you know about the trans when I am ready to order. Thanks.

AMSOIL Tech services responded stating that you would be perfectly safe using either a 30 weight lubricant or a 40 weight lubricant. AMSOIL chose to place the 40 weight lubricant first simply because of the age of the vehicle. If you are not experiencing any oil consumption with a 10W-30 lubricant then I would recommend using the same weight from AMSOIL.

Will send you a PM with pricing for 10w-30 and 0w-30 with AMSOIL and Wix filters
