New I35 to have AWD

According to yahoo autos:
The same goes for the redesigned 2004 I35. Like the current offering, the new I35 will be an underskin cousin of Nissan's Maxima, which is also being recast for '04 as a somewhat larger, upscale version of the mass-market Nissan Altima. The Infiniti, however, should look "less Maxima" than it does now, and standard all-wheel drive is being whispered to further set it apart. A concept vehicle at one of this winter's auto shows may provide a glimpse of what's to come. In any case, Infiniti has obviously decided to keep mimicking the successful stategy of archrival Lexus, which also fields two near-luxury sedans: the comfort-oriented ES 300, competing with I35, and the sporty IS 300, which the G35 targets.

WOW! That would be tight to drive an AWD I35. Im glad to see not only the maxima will have some major changes for 2004. For some reason I always thought that they were going to quit making the I35 and replace it with the M45, guess im wrong.

I wonder if that will be any indication that the 2004 Maxima will be AWD.

I really thought they would stop production on the I35 as well. It is nice to hear the I35 will have the AWD and Max will not. Kinda like the the VSLD on the 5-speed I30 the Max did not have(yes I know the canadadian had it). I enjoy having any kinda leg up on the Max since we are so far behind in the aftermarket catagory.

In a way I'm not surprised that it's not being discontinued. I knew that everyone kept saying that it would be, but for the reason quoted from the website, I believe the I35 provides direct competition for the ES300 crowd.

I mean, hell, if someone's willing to pay about the same for a butt ugly car with less standard features (ES300), then you KNOW there's money to be had in that market

Hmm...interesting.

A while back I was watching Car & Driver TV and they did a short take on the '02 Maxima. They mentioned that the I35 will not be made after 2003.

We'll have to wait and see, it definetly would be cool!

Of course only time will tell, but Infiniti seems to be going exclusively to RWD,further distinguishing it self fron Nissan. The new '04 Max will be FWD and not AWD, as reported on the Org. So with this in mind, I doubt if those rumors are true, sorry to say!!!
Happy Holidays!

the G35 is the more likely replacement. the M45 is right below the Q45 in price range so it doesn't even fit the category. Infiniti has some overlapping right now with the I35 and G35. Personally I don't know why the I35 even exists unless you just want a slightly bigger car then the G35. To me there's no competition, G35 wins hands down...unless you absolutely need FWD. no offense to I35 owners. just think infiniti's product department is on drugs right now.

That would make for some incredible deals on leftover I35's in a few months. I know the Infiniti dealership in Louisville has a crapload of them now as it is.

The ES 300 totally owns the I30/35. The ONLY reason to buy an I over a Maxima is dealer service. Not sure why Infiniti is working on a strategy to mimic Lexus when outside of the G35, the product line pretty much blows.

Let me guess. You own a Lexus.

Lexus...

The only reason to buy a Camry-Lexus is to spend more money. The ES 300 cannot compare to the I-30/35 Infiniti. Way less HP and thousands of dollars more! In my opinion, the Infiniti/Maxima situation is a win-win. Buy the one with the style you like the most. The cost difference is minimal (unlike toyota Camry-Lexus).

Of course this is written by an Infiniti I-30 owner who has owned a 95 and 99 Maxima.

Well, I won't look at sales. Obviously the I is sorely lacking. The Maxima is so good, the I 35 offers no reason to pay the extra loot. IF you think the Camry/ES looks identical, well the I30/35 is a CLONE, a diff grill and tailights.

Who buys an ES or I to street race????

Lexus made up it's mind that the ES is a luxo car and not a 1/2 and 1/2. That is what the IS is for. Not sure why Infiniti will keep the G and I when the I is not a sales magnet.

well I don't think any of us would buy a Max/I/ES to street race because that's not what they're made for.

the difference is that in a Max/I you could respectably street race, whereas in the ES... well...

when i bring up street race its just readable terms for a better/faster motor.

Well, I won't look at sales
i wont look at sales either. ford sales millions of f150s. that still doesnt mean anything.

btw an IS would get waxed by an i35. track wise.

why are we comparing ES300 to performance orientate family cars? the ES300 is a near luxury FAMILY car, without any inclination of performance. It doesn't try to be a performance car. Lexus brought in the GS and IS for that. Nissan (Infiniti) brought in the G35, M45 for there performance vehichles.

the I35 and Q45 are 70% Luxury, 30% performance....
the G35 and M45 are 65% performance, 35% Luxury...
the LS430 and ES300 are 80% Luxury and 20% performance...
the GS430 and IS300 are 60% Luxury and 40% performance...

my 2 cents....

but the I35 is dead after 2k3...that's what I've always heard.
