Fog Light Bulb Wattage??

Hey all, Ive got stock fogs in and im wondering how high i can go with voltage for a new set. I found some 55's and also some 100's. Can I use the 100's? I know the 55's work. Any info appreciated...

From what I have read, going with high watt bulb may cause your housing to crack. The bulbs will heat up the housing significantly enough that if you dive through a puddle of something the cold water will cause them to crack. I have heard of this happening many times.

hmm didnt think of that. Yeah i guess if they got hot enough, a puddle or rain or something could cause shock cooling. I'll just stick to the stock ones, even though they suck

What about using the headlight type bulbs in there? Is this possible, if I modify the housings, etc?

I was not telling you not to do it. I was just passing along the info of problems I have heard of when running a high watt bulb. There may be a safe wattage to run that will not cause excessive heating of the housing but I don't know that anwser.

I have no idea about using a headlight bulb. I would guess it would be possible, anything is possible. I am not the lighting expert so I am not about to give advice on that.

Why not put HID for the fog lights? I thinking about doing that.

Not only do you have to be concerned with possibly melting your fogs, especially the lenses, with a 100 watt bulb, but the greater problem lies with overloading the relay and/or wiring!!! The fogs use an H3 type bulb.
Hope this helps!

I had that happen in my Altima. I went from 55 to about 85 watts and my housing was gone in a cold rain. When changing the bulbs, the fuse under the dash immediately blew. Being a dumbass I put a larger fuse in and it worked. I do not know exactly what could have happened but someone said something about my car could have caught fire. They are back to normal now.
