Maxspeeds, DOH it's real uneven
Maxspeeds, DOH it's real uneven
I dont know if my springs are just defective or what but I just installed maxspeeds on my 98 I30 and the drop is horribly uneven. The front is PERFECT and I'm very happy with it but the back is..Honestly its even hard to tell that it is dropped. I'd say there's about an inch difference if not more between the front back back. Now, as far as I see it my only option is to cut some coils off the rear. Or I can add spring spacers to the front but im happy with the front so guess not. Oh, and these springs had been used for a couple months so I know they won't settle anymore.
The ride is great though..a liiiittle bit stiffer with the GR2's but nothing to complain about.
I'll have pictures posted soon. I just can't take any now cause it's dark but I do have the before pictures to show as a comparison and ill have "after spring cut" pictures to show as well when I do that on Tuesday.
If anyone feels I should not do this, please speak now or forever hold your peace.
Thanks

you should not get yourself all worked up...give it a week or so and as well you mentioned the darkness would not allow for great perspective...
here is a ??? though...were you able to take measurements before an dafter at the edge of the fenders?
that will tell you the immediate results and allow you to track settling...

Hmmmm....yhea they should not settle any more. Did you do the install yourself? I have not heard of this problem with Maxspeeds on any Maximas, although I don't know of any I30's running maxspeeds. But there is no way it should matter between I30 and Maximas, at least not that much. I got my Eibachs used off a maxima and got the same drop as the previous owner.
Maybe the install was done wrong
You can always cut a coil if the install was not the problem, but I would look at all other options first.

Well I saw the previous owners car with the springs on and he too had the same problem. No drop in the back. Mine is actually lower in the front than his (Guessing because I have an automatic transmission) but the back is basically the same..stock looking.
the ONLY thing I may have done wrong during the install that I can think of is..
The top 'housing' of the rear strut has a rubber seal which the spring rests in. It has indentations in it from where the stock springs were pressed in it. I wasn't able to place the end of the spring right into the little indentation in the rubber because then the I couldnt align the top strut mount bolts with the holes in the trunk. But I really don't think that would matter because it'll just make new indentations in the rubber from the sheer weight of the car pressing the springs into them.
I know the little indents werent made into the rubber either. It just happened because of the cars weight pressing them into it.
Plus since his Maxima had the same raised rear problems as my I30 does now im guessing it's just the springs. Maybe they were just made wrong from the factory or are overly tight for some reason. Wish I knew.
For now I've put 235 lbs of weight in the trunk (someones recommendation) and im gonna ride on that for a week and hope it settles but again, since these springs were used I find it hard to believe they'll settle anymore.
